I have a new vacuum cleaner

In our previous house, the floors all looked like wood but were actually vinyl slats. We bought a robotic vacuum cleaner which worked well. However, in our new house, the bedrooms are carpeted and Roberta, as we call the vacuum, doesn’t pick up the specks of fluff so well. The other alternative is to use the big vacuum cleaner but I was getting tired of having to get it out most days just to spot clean. So now we’ve bought a battery-operated stick vacuum cleaner and it’s working out well. I said it could be my Christmas present but Vince has never been one to buy appliances for birthdays and Christmas. He’s too romantic for that.

Your Vince is like my Vince so I’m gonna get my own vacuum too and never expect such present from him. I have been wanting a Dyson one but he finds it too expensive for a vacuum cleaner.

I have a very old stick vacuum, not battery powered, it has a cord, but it works so well that I am still using it. The next December it will also turn 50!

@JudyEv It was surely the case for the past, but all good things end.

We had two vacuums. One is a Hoover that I bought several years ago. It does a decent job. Four years ago I was doing a survey that asked me questions about various vacuums I've had over the years. I gave it detailed answers. The survey company contacted me and offered me a free vacuum if I'd do surveys they sent me specifically for whichever vacuum I chose from the ones they offered. I agreed and received a Shark battery operated vacuum. It did very well and I gave it high marks on the surveys they sent me. When we moved three years ago we found out the Shark stick doesn't perform well on carpet that has any length to it. The carpet in this house is a shag type. (We don't like it but this is a rental, so we don't have a choice.) The Shark just stopped working a few months after we moved here so it is in the garage now. The older Hoover we have works fine here.

@JudyEv We loved that Shark. It had a lot more suction than the Hoover did.

It was a bit the same with me. The robot was great in the other house but not nearly so efficient here. That's great that you got a new cleaner from doing the survey. Good for you.

Our vacuum cleaner too is bulky and so I have kept it inside its box.

The base of mine is in the bottom of a cupboard but the hose and attachments elsewhere so it's a nuisance to put together just for a few minutes vacuuming.

@JudyEv That's right. Assembling it is more tedious than the cleaning.

@DocAndersen I liked the wood look-alike floors that we had in the previous house but the bedrooms here have carpet.

@JudyEv the one we have is perfect, it is hanging right next to the only carpet that remains in the house!

We need appliances that can help us easily esp. to save our time. I am planning also to buy even a small vacuum.cleaner but to save money for that project hehe

I have often thought that I would like a robotic vacuum, but I still lug that heavy archiac canister vacuum behind me. At least with that I can do the walls so that the cobwebs don't accumulate, but I don't like hauling it behind me.

The dark carpets here show up every speck and I was fed up with connecting hoses etc just for a few minutes vacuuming. This will be much easier.

Congratulations on your new vacuum cleaner! I consider the stick type of vacuum cleaner a very effective one, our friends have one and they are very pleased with it: it is easy to use, easy to store, easy to clean
