Capybaras Everywhere

United States

I love capybaras, I always think of them as gentle giants, but I'm not sure I would want them taking up a great amount of space in my neighborhood. In a city in Argentina, they are everywhere. People are walking around and through them. I think the worst part would be capy-poo everywhere. About half way through the video is a baby that is so very cute. Would you like to live is such close proximity with these large rodents. https://pixabay.com/photos/capybara-rodent-mammal-wildlife-4466002/
COUNTLESS CAPYBARAS: People living in this community in Argentina have a lot of furry, four-legged neighbors. Local media reports hundreds of capybaras have ...

May be they are nice and cute, but rodents always rhyme with problems.

Yes, I can see why they should stay in the wild.

In some South American countries capybaras are considered a food animal. (I can't remember if they eat them in Argentina but Venezuelans do eat them. The Vatican declared capybaras to be "fish" in Venezuela... )

@misunderstood_zombie Some people say that about lambs and kids, too. I'll eat those.

@DaddyEvil That's funny because I do say that about lambs and kids, because they are so cute. I know it's dumb to think that way, but it's the way I think. As Popeye said I am what I am or something like that.

We have a wildlife park near us which has a family of capybaras. They seem to be a gentle animal which would harm nobody (though they can be quite vicious, I believe, if need be). They are really nothing more than giant guinea pigs. Calling them rodents makes some people associate them with rats, though, of course, they are technically rodents. I don't know whether they produce neat, dry little pellets like rabbits and guinea pigs. That would certainly be preferable to the kind of poo that cows produce!

That is true that the word rodent sounds so vile. Hopefully, they leave little pellets.

@misunderstood_zombie If they are harmful they should be left in the forests.
