Playing in the Snow

I was reminiscing with @JimBo452020 tonight about snow, and it made me realize it has been almost a decade since I last played in the snow. I know that snow is a bad 4-letter word for many of you, but for this Southerner, I am very fond of snow and any chance I get to play in it. It doesn't snow that often here in Florida, and when it does, it's never enough to accumulate on the ground. But, hey, snow season is coming up soon! Maybe this year I'll take another trip somewhere north and satisfy my urge to make a snow angel! Are you looking forward to winter? Photo is me in 2010 in Virginia, where there was NO forecast for snow at all, yet we got hit by two massive back-to-back blizzards. Right after the photo was snapped a massive snowball fight ensued. It did not disappoint!

Winters have started here it seems. But we don't have a snowfall here at my place. We go to hill stations to watch it once a year and yes I also like snow. I know it's frustrating for the people who have frequent snowfalls at their place.

@sjvg1976 Winters have started? Where? With 35 C or with AC still on some times of the day? Or have you migrated to Keylong or Ladakh??

The reason I like snow is because I never have to deal with it. If I lived in a climate where snowfall was frequent, I would absolutely hate it.

Very little winter were I live. We're heading into fall now, and then winter. But it won't get very cold. Our winters are usually very mild, as Florida is considered somewhat tropical.

That's because you don't want the snow. If you put your mind to it, you could wish snow into existence there.

@RasmaSandra For sure no one would know what to do. They'd probably have to shut down the roads because no one knows how to drive in snow. Most people here don't even know how to drive in the rain! I'd be like you. I'd rush down and dance in the snow.

I would have thought for sure it snowed often in your climate, but now that I think about it, I guess you're right about all the winter rain. It seems to be what that area is infamous for, lots of drizzling rain.

@moffittjc Yes, it never really has bothered me though. It snows plenty in the mountains, maybe 40 miles away. There are ski areas that usually open by Thanksgiving.

@moffittjc Bedford is around 140 miles (a 2 hr drive) from Wiltshire, Is this a new romantic interest or just someone you met? They reckon you only get 90 days protection from the virus. Were you very ill the second time? Did you get vaccinated?

HI Linda! Of course I remember you! So glad to see you back. How are you? Yes, I got covid twice. I'm just a magnet for it I guess. I'm sad to hear you got it too, but happy to hear you didn't have it that bad. Hope life is going well for you. I met a woman from Bedford a couple of weekends ago when I was at Disney World. Is that anywhere near where you live?

@sprite1950 No, not a romantic interest. I was with my girlfriend when I met the girl from England. We always meet people from all over the world when I'm at Disney World. I always love meeting new people. I was very ill the second time I got Covid. The first time I caught the Wuhan variant and was only mildly sick, but the second time I caught the South African variant and was almost on my deathbed. I was sick for a month, a good portion of which I spent in the hospital. Thankfully, I never had to be put on a ventilator, but there were a few days where it was being considered! Yes, even after I got covid twice I chose to get vaccinated. I never want to suffer through that virus again if I can avoid it.

We had drifts deep enough last year that it took Pretty and I together to push the storm door open on our covered front porch. We couldn't get the back screen door to budge. I don't mind snow until I have to get out into it and shovel the drive before I can get my car out to go to work... and then dodge the stupid drivers who can't drive on snow. Looking forward to it? NOPE!

It was probably about 2010 that we had our last big snow. I remember cars were stranded on the roads for several days! Kids couldn’t leave schools because buses couldn’t move. I didn’t enjoy that one at all.

Now that sounds like the kind of snow I would probably like to avoid. The week I was in Virginia back in 2010, we got hit with rare blizzard-like conditions. I actually got stuck there for 4 days longer than I had planned because all the roads through the mountain passes were closed due to hazardous conditions. I've never been so cold in my life, but I still had a blast playing in the snow!

They can make heated floors inside people’s homes, why hasn’t anybody developed heated driveways? Shoveling snow seems so archaic and barbaric to me. We can land a river on Mars with pinpoint accuracy, but we can’t figure out how to keep snow off of our driveways?

Snow is good! What people think snow is bad thing? It can be too much of it of course, but a winter without snow is just sad. And bleak and dark. We had one winter without snow some years ago, it was also very dried and things burned down. (houses, trees etc). So I want quite a lot of snow. The best is when the snow comes and then stays, instead of coming and melting once a week. But it can wait for at least two weeks, 'cause I don't have winter tyres on any of the cars yet.
