It has been a long time that I have not eaten 'tugi' or lesser yam. It is a root crop tuber that is considered an "Asiatic yam." It is one of my favorite root crops second to sweet potatoes for snacks. Before, I always think it as a "potato yam." Have you ever tried to eat this? Are they available in your market there?

I have seen both yams and sweet potatoes but was unaware that there is an Asian variety. I am sure it would be tasty hot with butter.

I am so curious how do yams taste at your place. I do agree that it will be tastier with butter on it.

@RebeccasFarm Uhm, it is my first time to see this kind of procedure for the lesser yam. Thanks for sharing it.

@Shavkat It is so tasty Shavvie. Before putting in the oven to bake, we add butter, cinnamon, brown sugar and let them bake. Then at the last time of baking, we add marshmallows on top of it and brown them. So the top is browned and sweet. I hope you try it. It is delicious, but of course you can minimize the sugar if you do not want so much.

Once in blue moon to see them in the public market. My mom is whining about it. It seems they are old ones that cannot be sold in the market. But still, we like eating them today.

@LadyDuck It is a bit bland taste and you can sprinkle with a bit of sugar.

I assumed that they taste the same. For us, we just boiled them and sprinkled some salt only, not baked.

Am not sure if I have seen it. Not all plants in Luzon are found in Mindanao and vice versa. Does it taste sweet?

That's nice to hear. How about this 'tugi' or lesser yam? Do you have them there, too?
