The spoils of war

Well, not war exactly but spoils from the quiz night we attended on Saturday evening. Our table of nine won. I must state that our group didn’t get much help from Vin and I as we knew nothing about such categories as pop culture, lyrics of popular songs and sport. However, win we did and we shared in a wash-basket full of goodies. There were eight bottles of wine and a great many bits and pieces. No-one wanted the scented candles so I took them. I can always give them to a thrift shop if nothing else. And no-one wanted this panettone cake although all assured me it’s a very nice cake. So I’m wondering if others have had this and did they like it?

It looks like it might be nice with custard. What do you think?

I love the panettone because it is the cake symbol of my city. Of course freshly baked it is a total different taste, but Mantovani is not a bad brand.

@JudyEv It keeps well several days once you open it. No need to eat it all the same day.

@LadyDuck That's good to know. We'll take it with us when we go to the next endurance ride. We'd have a better chance to share it there.

I think I have had this before but I'm not sure when. There seems a lot for just the two of us. I'll have to check the expiry date.

@allknowing Mostly I only use it when I notice the skin on my hands getting wrinkled and dry. I use it more and more lately.

I've never seen that before, so no I've not tried any. Was it good? I'm not good with trivia either and never have been.

@MarshaMusselman Probably not. I'd try to choose the right time when I knew it would all get eaten.

I haven't cut it yet. It's really a bit big just for the two of us so I might wait till we have guests or till I need to take a plate somewhere.

Oh yes, panettone is quite special. I'm sure @LadyDuck will have something to say about it. Here they are quite popular nowadays around Christmas but of course you can enjoy any time.

I love and I always went to Milan to buy mine at a specific bakery shop where my father used to buy it since I was a kid. I made it last year, three days job, but it was good.

Congrats on your win! Christmas cake. In stores it's on shelves at Christmas. It is light, but not as light as chiffon cake. I love rum cake, so I didn't enjoy it much. The one I bought, had raisins and candied fruit. It's more bread like, not cake like. Not very sweet.

@JudyEv I bought one last year, a tiny box, luckily. I like very moist cakes and Panettone is bread like.

You were part of the team. And when it's a team work, sometimes not all can contribute equally but then the celebration calls everyone The picture if it looks like some bread cakes that we get here. It's called fruit slices. Hope you enjoyed them.

@JudyEv It would be nice. The ones that we get here ,( not same, but looks similar) tastes good. My daughters love it. But once we open the box, we have to store it in air tight container. The moistness goes and it becomes little dry after opening for long. I am not sure if that will happen with this too. Anyway enjoy it

Honestly, in my opinion, this cake is very delicious when eaten while dipped in warm tea whose aroma is very tempting for faith when we are relaxing sitting in front of the house while talking to our family.
