My holiday cactus likes it's new home better

I've kept my cactus in the living room these past years. The drapes in there are darkening ones but I make sure to open them during the day. Last year was the first time I had blooms longer than ever before and I think that's because I made sure to water it weekly. Since our floor is finished in the kitchen I decided to move the plant into that room instead and before I did it had two blooms. Now it has close to twenty blooms and most showed up almost overnight. Maybe I'll finally have a plant that blooms as well as that of others. I never had the extra room previously to move it anywhere else. So you have any plants not doing well? Can you move them to where there's better lighting?

Plants are sensible to the light and the temperature. I have to move my orchid, it's not liking its actual place.

Does it get sunshine or just natural light like from a North window?

@MarshaMusselman The orchids must not be in direct sunshine, it gets light from a South window.

@LadyDuck I know someone that has several orchids in his South window. They must do well but I've not seen them blooming to often.

I have a Christmas Cactus too. I had left mine at the trailer when I moved. Now I have it here in my uncle's house. We had it in the sun room, but we had to move it because the cats were eating it and it caused them to be sick. My mother put some orange peel in it now. I want to move it back in the sun room once we move the couch.

Do cats hate orange peels? It must have been doing a lot better in the sun room then?

@JESSY3236 I didn't know they'll stay away from citrus. So you keep some owls in the dirt and change it up periodically?

We almost lost a plant a few years ago until my husband decided to move it to a better sunny spot and it thrived after this.

Sometimes certain rooms aren't good places for plants but it's better to try other things before ditching the plant.

I'm glad it likes the kitchen. I had that problem at the old apartment. Not enough light and faced the wrong direction. I have new plants and they're doing well so far.

I think that is the trick to getting plants to do well - finding the best place for each one.

Sometimes we can't put them into the best spots for lack of space or whatever. Once I get my balances up it may not like the room as much anymore.

My mother has always loved her poinsettias. Her Easter lilies. Just about any flower. Myself? No ability to take care of flowers!

I do ok with flowers when I have time lately that seems in short supply. Watering the plants helps too which I forget to do. I'm fact I've gotten up twice already to water the cactus and keep forgetting. Maybe I'll remember now. Brb. Finally it got done.

love seeing those cactus bloom. I used to have a Christmas cactus and I would be fascinated when it would bloom. I wondered how did it know it was time??

I've no idea on that myself. Maybe it has something to do with the path the sun makes as it's setting the various seasons.
