A sauerkraut spill

Yep, that's what happened yesterday.
We were making hot dogs for dinner and opened up a big bag of sauerkraut. I cut the package only halfway. Wanted to move the sauerkraut to a glass jar but hubby wanted to keep it in the bag. I stood it up against a wide bowl until the beef franks were done and we were ready to assemble the hot dogs.
At first everything was fine but then the package tipped over and the sauerkraut liquid started leaking out. Went on the counter and all over the kitchen floor that I had just washed. Good thing I was nearby and saw that and was able to lift the bag up to prevent further spillage. At least the sauerkraut didn't fall onto the floor. There was a little bit on the kitchen counter though. I put the sauerkraut into a bowl as it started leaking from the bottom when I picked it up and then transferred it into a glass jar. Should have done that right after I opened it.
I am not a huge fan of sauerkraut (I prefer Russian sour cabbage) but the hot dog tasted pretty good with it. I put shredded Italian cheese blend on the bottom of the hot dog bun, then the beef frank. On top of that I smothered some dijon mustard and ketchup, and loaded that up with sauerkraut. Will do the same thing for tonight's dinner. I think I may add some crispy fried onions. Forgot to do that yesterday.

Yum. My husband loves pork roast and sauerkraut (something you can't have) and Reubens.

Yeah. No pork for me. Those were the good old days when I ate pork and seafood.

@lovebuglena I would really miss the seafood -- crab, scallops, lobster and clam strips.

The smell of sauerkraut is not the nicest thing ever and if the liquid gets all over the place it ain’t fun.

@lovebuglena I don't mind the smell, but that's when it's in the pan or on my plate. Not the floor. lol

I have to check the Russian store near me and see what they call it in English there but I think it’s called sour cabbage.

@much2say It's usually done with shredded carrot and salt and sugar. I guess you can use the word
"pickled" instead of "sour." At least one site I found used both words. In Russian it is called kvashenaya kapusta.

@lovebuglena I eat ham, but I buy corned beef for my husband, he does not eat pork.

Sadly, no pork for me. I bet it would go great with pastrami or corned beef.

It was really good, though wasn’t a huge fan of the buns. Next time I will buy the brand I usually get. Prefer that one to this one.

@lovebuglena Okay. It's more comfortable bread that we are used to consuming.

My mouth is watering just thinking about eating it again. We also made some frozen seasoned sweet potato fries in the toaster oven and will do it again tonight.

I was not happy when all that liquid spilled all over the floor after having just washed it. Hubby started wiping it but I told him to leave it as the hot dogs were getting cold lol.
