I went to an appointment in a town not far from the coast so my oldest daughter and oldest granddaughter and I went over for the day after.
After a delicious lunch at the Chowder Bowl, we went to the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. I've been there before and it's a paid day use area. I didn't know I could have gotten a lifetime entry pass for free when I retired on disability. I now have it for all National Parks.
The area is beautiful. The lighthouse stands at 93 feet tall and has been guiding ships since 1873. Down below is the garden area and steps to the beach. In the winter you have to be careful since the ocean can raise and throw sneaker waves with no warning.
After, we went back over to Nye Beach, the Marina to shop in the Bohemian Candle shop and then off to Waldport before heading home on a route never taken. It was very dark and rounding a bend, we came kissing close to a herd of elk in the road.
It was a wonderful day. Have you gone to the Oregon Coast? Further north is more dangerous but beautiful.
The photo is mine of the lighthouse taken Monday.

My favorite thing to do. We love that area and a little town a bit farther south called Yachats (Yahots). We have not been since the pandemic and my wife's cancer treatment started.
