Do you like classical music?

Do you listen to classical music? If we have the radio on, it is usually tuned to a classical station. I’m pretty happy with silence but my husband likes his classical music. I like most genres of music but sometimes a classical piece can really resonate with me. One such piece is March of the Hebrew Slaves from the opera Nabucco and written by Guiseppe Verdi. Verdi was forced to write the opera as part of a contract despite having just lost his wife and small children to various illnesses. The piece became incredibly popular and a month after his death, when his body was reinterred alongside his wife, Arturo Toscanini conducted a choir of over 800 in the hymn. The photo is of a scene that also resonates with me. We stopped on the road in South Australia and I snapped this lovely landscape.

Sometimes, it is nice to have on in the background. I really am not as well-versed in pieces and composers as I would like, though. I think that I may have to go through a video series or take a course on it to boost my knowledge some, since there is a definite gap there.

Vince knows a lot of pieces and can often guess a composer but my memory seems to have AWOL lately.

honestly, when it comes to music it really depends. I like Rock and Roll when I need to work fast. I love classical when I am reading and trying to process.

Yes, to a certain extent. I like Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, by Bach, Mozart Jupiter Symphony, Beethoven Ode to Joy among others. Vivaldi is also a favorite.

Yes, when I was a kid, my Mom would play classical music on the stereo. I honestly listened to Classical before I got interested in Rock music. I've always had an appreciation for Classical.

Lovely picture. Leo loved classical music but I prefer Rock, country and some rap.It has to be up beat. I don’t want to hear any music with a sad sound.

@JudyEv Sorry but I do not like the title to the piece you like. It is not something that I would prefer since we have been slaves in Egypt and in April our Holiday of Passover comes up discussing us being slaves in Eygpt. I prefer Netflix on and either me watching something on it or working at the computer and having Netflix on. Right now I am rewatching Gilmore Girls and love it the 2nd time around. I love other music but not classical. I could never get into it. I am glad you enjoy it.

I've never heard that piece before. It was beautiful. My late ex-husband liked classical music. It was the only music he listened to, so I got to know many pieces from the various artists. It was never my choice. But I got used to it.

Interesting? Wonder if Verdi used his grief from losing his wife and children to draw from in writing this piece? I like some Classical music. Songs I recognize from popular musicians like Bethoven, Strauss, and Brahms are a few examples. But my preference is Classic Rock from the 60's.

Classic rock is really what I grew up with too. I think Verdi probably did draw on his grief to write this piece.
