It is nice to wake up with living things surrounding us. I took this 'little hogweed' photo yesterday. It is also called purslane, little hogweed, or pursley. The scientific name is 'portulaca oleracea.' Does the plant name funny?

Purslane and duckweed are two very different plants. Purslane, also called moss rose here is a plant that grows in gardens or wild in yards and fields. Duckweed grows in ponds or slow moving rivers.

I think it is how it was described. I assumed that it is a purslane.

@Shavkat That is purslane, portulaca or moss rose. It isn't duckweed.

We planted portulacas just the other day but they are a different colour. They come in all sorts of pretty colours.

I also think that "Little Hogweed" sounds like a film character.

I also think like the same thing a while back. I am sure they are not pronounced the same purslane /'p?rs le?n/ and porcelain /'p??.s?l.?n/.

@Babino It did not reflect the phonetics. You can check it out to e-dictionary.

I did not know purslane was duckweed. I had some volunteer in a plant this year. It is supposed to be healthy to eat and add to things. I hope mine comes back next year. This is very pretty.

It was also my first time to see the plant blooms, which I took advantage of having a shot of it.
