I got some work done on my book today.

I am trying to decide what is safe and what is unsafe when I use my computer. Several of my MyLot friends convinced me that MyLot is probably not responsible for my recent woes. So I worked on my book this morning. Microsoft takes almost ten dollars a month from me just for the right to access and edit my own documents. We live in interesting times. I will keep writing until I can't write any more. I hope my book makes me zillions of dollars. We shall see.

Last time I used MS Office was for school, because it was the school's license. You may switch to a free alternative unless the editor is so snobby they only accept MS Word documents.

@TheHorse OpenOffice is the most popular free alternative. I guess there are more. Formatting is slightly different, opening a MS Word document there might give you a messy layout, but you can fix it easily and export to PDF just like you do with MS Word.

@TheHorse I like and use OpenOffice... I do have to be careful when exporting manuscripts from it to a website because it can lose it's formatting. It's much easier to export to .pdf and then transfer it. Other programs prefer MS Word and make it more difficult to keep the formatting when not working with MS Word. (I use the check, check again and then transfer method.)

I think not. I have published about 20 scholarly articles, but nobody reads them except other "academics." I am writing book about working with disadvantaged children. I am hoping it will appeal to academics and the public alike.

@TheHorse I never know how anything is going to end. And that rarely changes, even after I'm done writing it.

@xander6464 Sounds frustrating. That's why rarely publish novels. And when I do, I tend to use aliases.

Novels are pesky. I sometimes don't know how they're going to end as I'm writing.

@TheHorse The easy button is stop using passwords. move to pass phrases. Kittysleeps@myshirt Kittybringsme@thingsican't eat they are more complex, harder to guess and much harder to break plus best of all if you personalize them, you will always remember them!

Hopefully, your book gets mainstream attention. If you want to make zillions, though, you probably need to write a book offering advice on how to make zillions.

I bought the Office Suite outright when I bought my computer. Much cheaper that way. I hope you make zillions of dollars too. I'd like a house in the Keys and a boat for my husband. lolololol Glad you decided to stay.

Yeah indeed in this digital era we have to take care of ourselves and our accounts so that they don't get hacked or bad things happen in the future, because there are always people who want to harm others for their own benefit.
