Culinary experiments

I made whole berry cranberry sauce today, using the regular recipe. My great niece wants pumpkin bread, so I used a new recipe and made two loaves. Now for the experiment. . . My sister in law gave us some nice pears, but they have gotten over ripe. I used them in my banana bread recipe, in lieu of bananas. Seasoned the batter with some ginger. I will be glad to let you know how it turned out. I am always doing experiments.

It was good. I made a small sample as well as a large loaf.

I love to get creative in the kitchen (hey, that would be a good name for a cook book!) Unfortunately it doesn't always go well. Let us know how yours turn out.

It came out with a good texture and I think it tastes good. Hubby said it smelled like gingerbread, but it was not that spicy to eat. Very moist.

@1creekgirl I do not think I am organized enough to write a cookbook, but it is a thought.

@GardenGerty You might need to write a cook book. I've collected recipes for years, but I recently started a book of gluten free recipes for my husband.

I don't come across overripen pears, but I would love to know how this turns out just in case.

My brother's friend brought a couple of bushels of pears to my brother and sister in law. The pears contiinued to ripen as she was busy making preserves etc. The pear bread came out good and I felt it was a nice use of something that otherwise might go to waste.

@GardenGerty I'll have to remember this if I have an abundance of pears.

I just threw out a bunch of very over-ripe pears. Wish I had thought about using them like you did. I'm sure replacing them for bananas will work just as well. Homemade cranberry sauce is delicious1 Have a very Happy Thanksgiving

It came out fine. I was afraid it would be over sweet but it was not. Hubby said it smelled like ginger bread.

@GardenGerty good to know that it came out good and pears can be a good substitution for bananas.

I'm interested to know if the pears have enough of a flavour to carry it all on their own. I usually put pears with apples, but I look forward to hearing about your experiment.

To me it was fine. Nice and moist. My neighbor used to make a delicious apple bread.

That way I use up things that might spoil. And enjoy them in the process.

It was good, very moist, slightly different texture because pears are a little grainy.

And so are traditional family recipes. I like to do both.
