I'm home!

My husband brought me home late this afternoon and home has never looked so good. First thing I did was get a hot shower and wash my hair. Glorious! I have to be careful what I eat: small meals, soft low fiber foods, nothing to irritate my stomach. But it will be worth it if I NEVER HAVE TO ENDURE THAT VILE NG TUBE AGAIN! In case you're not familiar with it, an NG tube is a Naso Gastric plastic tube that is inserted through one nostril and down into your stomach. The other end suctions your stomach's contents into a container. This lets everything bypass your colon so your intestines can rest and hopefully undo the blockage. I know it's prevented the need for surgery, including for me, but medical science needs to come up with something else that's not so painful. The first two times I had that tube was bad enough, but this time was worst than ever. It not only kills you every time you swallow, but this time it created an almost allergic reaction with a pouring running nose and drainage that made me feel like I couldn't breath and was drowning! I'm really thankful I didn't need surgery, but I'm sure going to watch what I eat. I'll cook Thanksgiving dinner a week late, but it's fine. My cousin's bringing us plates of dinner tomorrow. Sure hope there's something I can eat, lol. Again, as with so many other times, I'm deeply touched and very much appreciate all your prayers and love.

I am so glad to know that you are at home. Mom needed that tube treatment, I felt so sorry for her. You are now at home, relax, you escaped surgery, be careful what you eat. Take care.

@1creekgirl - I still do not know exactly what food I must avoid, time by time I eat the wrong thing, so after I know.

@LadyDuck That's so true for me too. I can eat something and be fine, then the next time it sets off an attack of IBS. One time I ate one marshmallow. ONE marshmallow and was in terrible pain for two days.

Thank you, Anna. It's a challenge to know what to eat. I know what not to eat, though.

I think recovery takes a little longer every time. Age thing, I guess.

Oh my goodness Vicki, I missed it - I'm so happy you're ok, avoided surgery and are home now. Blockages and needing that NG is something your other Vicki club Vicki (Momma) has had to do. I'm sorry. I will pray you keep well

@1creekgirl Thanks! She's really good now. I'll let her know she'll get a chuckle out of that I'm sure since she disliked that tube too. How was your Thanksgiving, dear?

Thanks. If every doctor and nurse had to experience an NG tube, I expect there would be much more medical research to find a better system.

I guess better is a relative concept, lol. I'm better than I was yesterday, but I think aging slows progress a bit. My husband fried fish and stewed turnips (for Thanksgiving!), but I just ate a plain baked potato, four tiny bites of just the white fish meat, and a small cake. All things that digest easily. We'll eat the plates from my cousin tomorrow. How was your Thanksgiving? I know you miss Dustin.

Wow! I was grumbling about the tests my doctor ordered (CT scan, blood, urine and the other end stuff tested. I have zip lock bags just for that because it smells so bad). I feel so badly for you and wish I could have gone through the whole thing for you. I'm glad you're home and able to sleep in your own bed, no tubes or needles, and able to shower in your own bathroom. Just remember no matter how good it tastes, small amounts otherwise they'll put you on liquid diets or maybe stuff that tastes like cat food. If you need help, broccoli helps a LOT, except it makes you a bit "gassy". I had the green avenger and my husband went and slept on the couch! He told me I didn't smell too good....ROTFL You've made my Thanksgiving brighter knowing that you're home with your loved ones, I hope you have a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. Just don't over do when you cook your dinner.

I sure appreciate your kind wishes. I'm not cooking today, my cousin's bringing plates later. But of course I'll be really careful. I'll cook our big dinner next week for the four of us. Are you cooking today? Hope you're having a blessed Thanksgiving.
