As I told my brother yesterday, I haven’t stayed home two days in a row since last year when I had covid! I did remember how to drive!
I also remember where I’m at, and that’s counting down favorites with “island” in the title for our favorite cruising myLotter, @JoyDorsey ! She mentioned this band not too long ago, and here they are again!!
#9: I’m on an Island - Kinks
Don’t worry, y’all don’t know this one.
An early Kinks album cut presents here, showing their ability to throw half a dozen things (you can hear a little Beatles impersonation in the harmonies) into a two-minute tune and make it great.
And here’s a little tidbit: by the time this album, their third, came out in 1965 the Kinks had been banned in the U.S. Not because of the Beatlemania-type swooning, and not because of the “Let’s Spend the Night Together” suggestive lyrics. You see, Ray and Dave Davies, despite being brothers, haven’t really cared for each other for a long time, and their onstage fighting gave them a reputation.
Thankfully, they did stay together long enough (33 years) to make some incredible music.

I love The Kinks right from the start. As a teenager in the 60s I bought all their records but this one is still special to me and is one of my all time real...

Sometimes stating the obvious makes good music.
In the end, we’re all surrounded by water on all sides! We’re all on rocks, we’re all on islands! (Paul Simon could have called that “I Am an Island” and found himself on this countdown…..)
