A $1000 down coat

My mom wants to buy me a long down coat with a hood that has real fur.
She told me to look at the brand called Sam. at the Saks store website.
She has one from that brand that she bought some years back.
I looked at it on that website and it is very expensive.
One coat is close to $1000 and it doesn't even include tax, if there is any.
It is very generous of her to want to buy me such a coat but I do not want to purchase such an expensive one, even if she is paying.
I don't even know which size I need so I'd have to buy two and then deal with returning one of them.
There have to be other brands that sell stylish down coats with real fur on the hood that do not cost that much.
This can't be the only option out there.
I know a few more brands like Mackage or Montclair but they are also very expensive.

@MarieCoyle Real furs are not even very warm. I had one many years ago, my coat was warmer than my fur. I donated it when wearing a fur had become dangerous, I do not want to be attacked by animalists, I also love and protect animals.

I love having real fur on the hood as opposed to that fake ugly stuff. However, that is too much to pay for a down coat.

I would not want real fur on a coat, but to each his own. I think I would rather have a super warm coat from Bean's or similar, they are wonderful coats.

That would sure be a beautifully extravagant gift!

Very much so. Very generous of her but I cannot accept it. Makes no sense to spend that much on a down coat. I'd rather update my wardrobe than spend that much on one thing.

@lovebuglena I'd feel the same. You can buy several nice pieces for that amount of money.

That is wonderful for a very harsh winter and you can take care of it so it lasts all your life.

I am not sure if it will last a lifetime but it should last for a while I'd think.

In this day and age with advanced synthetic materials, they still make coats that use real fur? Shame on them!
A $1000 is quite a hefty price to pay, that junk better be made out of gold if I'm going to drop that kind of money! lol

@lovebuglena I can't be too hypocritical, I love wearing leather jackets.

@moffittjc If I can't have the real thing I do not want it. Exception is when it comes to jewelry. I have a charm bracelet with CZ stones and not real diamonds.

This one is just fur on the hood but they still make coats that are completely made of fur. I would not wear fake fur. It's gotta be real or none at all.
Just like I'd rather eat a real burger or none. None of that imitation stuff.

I wouldn't wear real fur coat but that is my choice. It is too much money for a coat I think.

I think so as well. I can get many different tops and bottoms for that much money.

You could buy a whole wardrobe with that kind of money; and I wouldn't want real fur on the hood. That is a very generous gesture.

That's what I am thinking. I'd rather update my wardrobe than spend that much on one coat. And that brand never really goes on sale.

@lovebuglena Maybe your mother could give you a gift card from your favorite store.

@LindaOHio I don't want to be tied to one store. If I can't find anything that I like and/or fits than I can't use that money elsewhere.

You don't live in Siberia. I think the uses for that would be pretty minimal.

I do wear down coats. And I have them with real fur on the hood but they no longer fit me.
Gotta get a new one. But not for that much money, even if I won't be the one paying.

I can't blame you. I wouldn't use real furr, but at the same time, I wouldn't want to spend that much on a coat. Or any artical of clothing.

Whether real fur on the hood or no fur at all, too much to spend on a down coat. Can get many things for that much money.

That's an expensive coat with real fur. Maybe a synthetic one to keep you warm? That was nice of your mom.@lovebuglena (52144)

I do not want a hood with faux fur. Either real or none at all.
