Climbing to great heights

We had to pick something up from our caravan which is kept on a friend’s property. We had a coffee with them and took a few minutes to watch this tree lopper working on a huge tree next door. You may have trouble picking him up in the left-hand photo but you can see him sitting on a branch on the other photo. If you stay on the same line and look back at the LH snap, you can make out the same shape. He was putting a rope round each branch and lowering it to the ground as he cut it off rather than just letting the branches fall. It’s not a job I would want to be doing.

Same here. We had a slew of workers removing humongous trees around our property. They were able to get their equipment in where necessary, thank goodness.

@JudyEv You’re up early! Yes, my son came over to watch with us. Some of the branches were larger than most of our trees.

@DianneN We have to be at the chiropractor at 8 am. When you have an early appointment, you don't sleep well worrying about whether you'll sleep in!!

They're fascinating to watch. They certainly know what they're doing.

I wish I'd seen him climbing the tree in the first place.

@CarolDM Maybe they do. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap.

Send him over here when he's done: I have a dying tree that needs attending.

That looks like you up in that tree! What were you thinking? I hope you got down safely and aren't sharing this from your hospital bed! I don't even like to climb ladders anymore. I get scared looking out windows that are high off the ground.

@JudyEv Even watching some YT videos, if it shows a great distance to the ground, I jump back. I can't help it. I feel like I'm going to fall.

Vince is like you - a bit of a scaredy-cat. I don't mind heights but I'm always careful.

Nor me! I've seen them working away locally. Much prefer to be on the ground

Some seem really at home up in the branches. Watching it was making Vince's stomach churn. It didn't worry me too much.

@JudyEv As long as I am on the ground, I have no problem watching other people up in trees!

That's pretty tall, is he wearing a safety harness?

I couldn't see so I don't know but I should think he would have had one on.

@JudyEv I hope he realizes the importance of safety, in my area there have been several accidents involving people climbing coconut trees without safety ropes

Looks like a fairly dangerous job. I don't think I would want to be up there.

I'm sure this will cost a lot too. It is a huge tree.

That is a very tricky job, my hubby worked it for about a year after he finished school.

I should think, if you had an accident, it could be a bad one.
