Covid 19 False Alarm

Thanksgiving Day was fine. My daughter and Hua the Chihuahua arrived and we started getting the meal together, ate about mid-afternoon and got things cleaned up, then watched some tv that evening. Friday morning, I got up before six and played with Hua while my daughter drove down the street to Starbucks for treats. Anne stayed in bed for another hour. By about 9 AM, I felt more tired than I should and spent much of the rest of the morning lazily in my recliner. We took the dog for a walk that afternoon, ate leftovers, watched tv and went to bed early. On Saturday, my daughter left early. I started some laundry, did a few things around the house and then the fatigue returned. This was very unusual, since I generally have a lot of energy, so Anne checked my temperature and it was just over 100 (37.7 C), so we decided that two symptoms were enough and headed for a local urgent care office to be tested for Covid. The place was quiet when we got there. They checked our temperatures and oxygen levels right away. My slight fever was confirmed. Anne’s was normal but her oxygen level was rather low, so they told me to take her to the hospital emergency room immediately, which I did. We both ended up in separate rooms there, blood was drawn from us in many small vials, chest x-rays were made. The Covid tests where they stick a long cotton swab far up your nose was done. Our rooms were not close together and there were different doctors and nurses, but my nurses went to check on Anne for me since she did not have her phone. Too make a too long story shorter, I’ll say that Anne had a pocket of pneumonia in one lung. They kept her overnight and I brought her home just a while ago, pausing in the middle of this to do so. At least neither of us has Covid-19!

@LadyDuck Right and when there is a combination of symptoms, it is alarming. Good thing we went though, since they caught Anne's pneumonia

Thank goodness you didn't have that Covid crud.( Did you hear there is a new strain?) Sorry to hear of Anne's pneumonia. I had that and it is no fun and seemed to last forever. Hope she is better soon. Take care.

I am sorry that your wife is so ill, but glad that neither of you have covid. I feel like covid has made us much more aware of how we are feeling and seeking out medical attention when we are not 100%. Have a restful night.

I figured it was unlikely that I had Covid, but the with the fever and fatigue, I did not want to take any chances. My daughter would have been exposed too. I have been very careful through this whole thing, no theaters, one restaurant.

That would be very worrying. We had covid tests too. The nose probe was bad enough but the swab in the throat was worse. At least I thought so. I'm glad you're both home now.

Thanks Judy! They insisted on doing a number or tests that had been done a few weeks ago for my annual checkup. I am guessing they felt like they had to rather than miss something.

@JamesHxstatic You would be doubly stressed knowing Anne needed your support. You can't really afford to get sick.

Thanks, so do I. We have been trying all day to reach someone at her regular doc's office. The antibiotic prescription from the hospital is one that makes her sick, so we need to change it.

Sorry about Ann, and you. However, a blessing that neither of you had Covid. I thought I was getting a cold when I was coming back from Tgiving on Sat. I had scratchy throat, but fortunately nothing materialized.

I didn't think that Covid was likely, but with those symptoms, had to opt for a test.
