Hanging of the Greens

Some churches participate in this usually the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It always brought out a few comments at my former church because there were several people with the surname "Green" in our congregation. A fine kick off to the Advent Season. We now just call it decorating the church. Have you decorated for Christmas, or do you? I have not done a thing. We shall see what this season brings.

The neighborhood has mostly decorated all over. Nothing here.

I will hang wreaths, as usual. Not sure on the inside.

Yeah, “hanging the greens” sounds like doing violence to people with the wrong last name. My neighbors haven’t put their stuff up yet. I’m worried about them!!!

I don't decorate for Christmas anymore. Walmart burned me out on Christmas. They start decorating so early that by the time I used to decorate, I can't stand the sight of Christmas decorations. (We still have all the electronic decorations I bought but they stay packed in plastic totes in our garage.)

I like to do stuff that is unique to me. I have a collection of star ornaments. We used to buy new ones every year and I also have some that my kids made from various things.

@GardenGerty Almost all the electronic decorations we own I bought when Pretty was in grade school. We checked them all before we packed them back up and moved them here three years ago. Everything was still in good shape then.

I've never heard of 'hanging of the greens'. Just a few moments ago we were discussing what we'd do about decorating the place.

I have it easier doing outdoor decor than indoor. I hang lots of wreaths. I did go get them from the shed. The rest of the stuff is in the attic, oh,my!!

@GardenGerty We don't really want to start knocking nails into walls here although we'll probably be here for the rest of our lives. But we've managed to put up a few streamers.

I put out some decorations at the church on Friday when I cleaned it. Sometimes someone will place a tree in the sanctuary but not always. At home I put out our Christmas flag, ceramic Christmas tree and our Merry Christmas sign on the door. That is as much decorating as I am doing these days.

I hang several wreaths across the front of my house. For a while I had trees I had made from tomato cages. We shall see what this year brings.

@GardenGerty That is an interesting idea of using tomato cages for Christmas trees. Maybe I ought to use one of ours to make one.

I thought about hauling out my Advent wreath yesterday (first time in years) and sang the first two lines of O Come, O Come Emanuel in my head, but I didn't bring it out. (Too much crap on the table and I didn't feel like cleaning.) Thiink I'll wait till next week to bring out my mother's ceramic tree.

I do not know where my mother's ceramic tree, or my mother in law's ceramic tree went. I made them both, oh, and my dad's tree, too.

I have just set up my tree from some years back. I won't be spending much on decorations. I prefer to save for the rainy days

When we were Methodists, we called it the hanging of the greens. (No Greens in the congregation!) Now, like you, we just call it decorating the church. We have our tree up, but not decorated yet.

I am not sure what I will do about trees this year. I will, as usual, hang my wreaths across the front of the house.

@GardenGerty Aye. Must say though our street is the least festive at this time of year that I have ever seen it.

I don't celebrate Christmas, but I really like the atmosphere of Christmas, I respect other religions

We do all need to be respectful. I will say that many who "celebrate" Christmas are not Christians, but do enjoy the festive atmosphere.
