Bright beacons at Fremantle, Western Australia

On our way home from Vince’s sister’s house last Saturday, we drove down to the breakwater at the Fremantle wharf . It was a beautiful day although quite hot. I think nearly everyone who owned a boat was out on the water.
I took these photos of the beacons. If you are sailing and come across such beacons, you need to keep the red one on the port (left) side. That’s what I’ve been told. Are there any sailors out there that can verify that for me?
Tomorrow, our village is having a Christmas market which should be fun. I think they are raising funds to fill shoeboxes for disadvantaged families. Vince has been roped in to take some snaps of the festivities.

Red and Green are the internationally recognised colours for left and right in navigation terms and can also be seen on the wingtips of aircraft. I always remember which is which by telling myself that port (the drink) is red, and left has the same number of letters. Ergo starboard is green.
Those beacons are unmistakable and look very cheery I bet coming into harbour.

I bet Vince loves to be "roped in" for photography and he has a good talent to share. It will be interesting to see if any one knows more about the beacons.

I have never seen lighthouses that color here.Usually they are brick or kind of non descript.

Those are gorgeous!!! Here, we call them “lighthouses,” and most of ours are quite drab. Even the “painted” ones are rarely more than black and white. They’re extremely popular tourist attractions here, though. I went to the top of the one in St. Augustine one year. TERRIFIC view! (Just no elevator, so you have to take the steps to the top.

That should be fun.
Those beacons are beautiful. Lighthouses in Oregon are all white.

"I want to marry a lighthouse keeper.
and keep him company..."
They're looking very festive.

In those days, they were probably red and green triangles bobbing on buoys. You wouldn't recognise Fremantle now.

These are lovely beacons. Our lighthouses are not in these nice, bright colors.

I love the photos! We call those lighthouses here in the US. Most of the ones I've seen are white. The red and green ones really grab one's attention!
I like to support organizations that raise money for those in need.
