Yesterday, I read an article about food delivery robots. I personally would not like that system at all. Way too modern for an old fashioned lady like me.
Six-wheeled robots use sensors to navigate city streets and sidewalks

I think it is more likely to get stepped on or run over while motoring your way!

I was thinking about robberies. There are enough poor people who'd like some food for nothing.

@MALUSE True, I wonder how big they are. Could someone just pick one up and smash it, to get inside?

What do you mean with 'modern'? I'd find it too impersonal.

I feel a. Less possibility of accidents. The way these pizza delivery boys weave through traffic here, it is scary because they turn up so suddenly. b. Saving of medical and insurance costs...not to mention need to hire temporary staff. That is for the stuff delivery company and on macro scale for the country. c. Prevention of hold ups. We have had a few cases of Pizza guys entering in as a gang so yeah...that kinda danger is not there.

@vandana7 , Even with all the reasons that you give here, I still don't want robots to do everything.

I am for having fewer kids. Don't get me wrong. I love kids. I was watching a few YouTube links that showed people with four and six kids living in motels because they lost their jobs. It was disturbing. They earned well, but did not save for such contingency. Letting go of car and traveling by bus may be hurtful. Especially in the US. Many poor are living in cars and tents. I was disturbed when the lady proudly announced she was pregnant even though she was living in a tent. Really? How many infections are possible? How safe is the child's life here? There has to be a balance between traditional beliefs and practical aspects. God has given us even technologies to have kids later. Therefore, shouldn't we defer making babies till we can truly afford them? By affording I mean, we ensure we can give them enough for standing on their own feet, and have enough for not be burden on them in our old age. So employment is not always possible. Controlling our desires for vacations, for things, and even babies is.

We don't even have people delivering stuff here so I can't see a robot delivering anything any time soon. I wonder how many of them will get run over "accidentally" when people start losing their jobs to them?

@marlina The link says they're only knee high, so not that easy to see on a busy street. The link doesn't say how much real world testing they've had, either. With all the problems the automated cars have had, I can't see these things doing all that well to start off with.

I think risk exists the other way. Kinda, somebody drops by with pizza, and then comes the hold up. With this, that risk is not there. I was wondering how this robot is gonna get into elevators and ring the door bell.

I think it would be kind of nifty. However, it does take someone's job away I suppose. In the city Chick Fil A delivers in a weird looking electric vehicle that kind of looks like an enclosed 3 wheeled motorcycle.

it is really interesting - one of our local shops is talking about doing it. There are two reasons why it is cool and a good thing. 1. no human interaction (grubhub driver etc) with the food. 2. it has a built in oven, keeps the stuff warm we ordered PC at GW (George Washington University, in Washington DC) and it was delivered by a robot. So cooL!!!!!

I wouldn't really mind receiving my deliveries that way - as long as there were no issues with being able to open the pod and that sort of thing - but I'm not so sure about having lots of those things motoring around.

@vandana7 Yes you wonder how it would cope with all the traffic, and would drivers be able to see it easily? And what about pedestrians especially blind people, for example. And of course rural roads would be a whole other question - what would happen if it met a herd of cows, or a combine harvester on a single-track road I wonder?
