I was doing well - then I succumbed to temptation

garden, bulbs, planting, autumn, spring

I often seem to be slightly behind with everything - I guess that’s probably because as soon as I get things finished I immediately think of more things that I need to do and then I’m behind again straight away. Anyway I do a lot of gardening, and in the garden there’s always something to do. This year I was feeling quite pleased with myself as I had managed to plant all my spring bulbs. But then I thought I would buy some summer-flowering bulbs for a gift, so I went to a bulb supplier to order what I wanted - and then of course other things caught my eye. I bought a few Camassias as I already have a few in the garden and they seem to do well. Then a pack of alliums to share with a friend who is particularly fond of these. A pack of Dutch iris for early summer was tempting. Then I found that multi-colour packs of tulips were now half price - how could I resist? And then I got a free pack of Daffodils and Narcissi with the order. They arrived very quickly and no doubt next year I will enjoy them all. The snag is that from being ahead of the game, I am now behind again with over 160 bulbs to plant! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

You can't go far wrong with bulbs really as everything is already in place ready to emerge in spring!

Those are a large number of spring bulbs to plant, but just think how beautiful your planting will pay off next spring.

Yes it will, as long as I can get them all in the ground somewhere!

I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew! I'll have to do it in phases. Luckily the weather isn't freezing at the moment.

@JudyEv Yes, one bite at a time! The big snag is that I have to try to plant these without accidentally cutting through bulbs that are already in the ground.

@Fleura I always found, with a big job, just to break it down. I'm thinking of shifting mulch. Just x barrowloads a day and don't think about what's left. Before long, the pile is getting smaller and smaller and soon you're all done. Go for it!

With a 160 bulbs to plant, I reckon you've got a fair bit of catching up to do!

The hardest part is working out where I haven't put bulbs already (or where there are some from last year) so I don't accidentally chop those when planting new ones!

@Fleura I would say you think a lot. You should be pleased with yourself. Good work I will say. I see what is going on here. You really love the bulbs to put in your garden.
