Wow, what a day! I actually peopled today!!!! The good part of that was having lunch with @JoyDorsey at one of the great local barbecue places called Mark’s Feed Store. We had a great time chatting, laughing, and annoying the server (okay, I did that part). After lunch I went to the VA hospital for a scheduled appointment, where I had to “people” some more. Ick. Thankfully, not too many people: mostly the doctor and the intern. They’re giving me some new medications, including a new inhaler. I love the one I’m on, but I fully understand that they have to be reasonable with the money they spend, and if there’s an inhaler that will do the job the same as the one I have, AND is a hundred dollars cheaper, then they go for it! If I were paying for that inhaler, you bet I’d want the cheapest one as well! When I came home there was a black cat in the front yard. I meowed at it. It meowed back. We had a conversation like that for a few seconds. I don’t know what I said to it (I’m not fluent in cat language), but I could see its face had been poked a few dozen times by something (another cat? A squirrel? Who knows?). I put my hand out, and it backed away but didn’t run away. I went to the back yard and it followed, so I got it a can of cat food (I don’t have any cats, but I keep a few cans in the house for the neighborhood cats who make themselves at home in my back yard) and some water. My mail today contained a super sweet Christmas card and note from @TheSojourner . What a sweetheart! It warmed my heart. Today’s the anniversary of my mom’s passing. It cast a little bit of a sad shadow on the day, but she made me promise her that I wouldn’t sit around, moping about her once she was gone. I miss her, but I’m thankful that we went out and created a lot of memories so I wouldn’t have to sit around, moping after she’d gone. And as I told Joy, I said in her eulogy at church, “I haven’t ‘lost’ my mother, I know exactly where she is!” I’ll get back to the music countdowns tomorrow. I keep a list, so I know where I left off. Y’all have a great evening!

It’s a selfish reason: I figure if I feed the cats they’ll leave the squirrels alone.

I’m glad it has its face buried in the can, eating, so nobody can see the scars and injuries on its face. Poor baby.

I wish I could’ve caught it and put Neosporin on those injuries. Of course, it would have never spoken to me again…..

I'm so jealous that you guys got to spend time together. How far apart do you live? Would love to send you and Joy a card; but it's hard without addresses. So sorry about your mom. You will see her again one day. Virtual hugs.

I'm sure the cat appreciated its meal. That's a good idea to have a few cans of food on hand. I'm sorry about your Mum.

Understood, for my Mom passed 4 years in July. She must be ok, for I've paid for Buddhist prayers on her anniversary day of passing. Consequently, I've perpetual prayers it's called for myself an end of life journey thing, when you're my age, you prepare for. You had a fun - productive day, nice. Happy Holidays!
