Jigsaws with large pieces

I have a brother and sister who were twins. Sadly, my brother has passed away. My sister is 83, eight years older than I am. We now live about an hour’s drive from them so we are able to visit here more often.
We are going up there the weekend after this and it will be good to catch up again. I have bought her a jigsaw as a Christmas gift. She likes doing jigsaws but is finding it increasingly difficult to manage those with small pieces. This one has large pieces and has horses. She is really keen on horses, just like me, and has been involved with them for much of her life.
Do you do jigsaws? Are you at the stage of needing ones with larger-than-usual pieces?

I go through phases. When I lived in the USA I used to do jigsaw puzzles while on the 'phone to my Mum once a week. She could talk and talk for an hour or so and I could barely get a word in so I would do a puzzle while I listened and said 'Mm-hm' every now and then.
Nowadays we sometimes do one all together. Map puzzles have been favourites so far. We've found that 500 pieces is the ideal size for us. Those really difficult 1,000 piece ones with tiny pieces that all look similar - we just haven't got the time or the patience!

Last jigsaw I did was too easy. It said 5 to 8 years on the box and it only took me 10 mins to do.

@JudyEv Jigsaws seem to be coming back into fashion. I’ve always thought they were a great way to de-stress. You need to concentrate and put other things out of your mind while you’re doing it. Plus the satisfaction once complete is immense, especially if it was a difficult puzzle. However, the frustration if there are pieces missing can ruin the whole thing!

@Orson_Kart I think they had a resurgence in popularity as a family pastime when people suddenly got confined to their homes because of COVID.

I like doing jigsaw puzzles, have done them all my life. It used to be a family activity. After the supper dishes were cleared away, my father would pull out a puzzle and we'd all work on it together, These days, I mostly just do them online (TheJigsawPuzzles.com)

It will be a Christmas present. Once she has solved it, she will probably lend it back to me for me to solve.

I have a jigsaw puzzle app on my iPad. I can work the “330” piece size puzzles without any problem right now. Ask again in a year and I might be at the “100 piece” size.

Once your fingers get arthritic, it really affects much of what you used to be able to do.

Sorry to hear about your brother. What a thoughtful gift. I went through a time when I worked on jigsaw puzzles for several weeks until I put them all together. Haven't done any for a while. I don't need larger pieces yet.
