Additions to our freezer

A few weeks ago, maybe a month, we planted some troughs with roses, a couple of creepers, and other bits and pieces. One trough has mint and another parsley and basil. Something ate nearly all the leaves off the mint but it is coming away again nicely now. The parsley and basil has done really well. Yesterday Vince picked a generous amount of each of the plants and it is now chopped up and in small containers in the freezer. When he wants some for a recipe, it will be ready chopped and waiting to be used. Freezers are really handy for freezing food items.

My food hoarder husband has filled our chest freezer and refrigerator freezer to the brim. There's no extra room for anything. :-(

Freezers are all well and good but sometimes it's hard to get to what you want, especially with a chest freezer.

@LindaOHio That's very true but it can be hard to get to the bottom of it if what you want is well-buried.

@JudyEv I like a chest freezer because if the power goes out, the contents stay more frozen and the cold doesn't fall out every time you open it up.

I do the same with the herbs, I have so many during summer and they come handy in winter, out from the freezer ready to use.

It's really useful to be able to go to the freezer and get what you want.

@JudyEv I prepared all the puff pastry appetizers the past days and they are also in the freezer. It is comfortable to be able to take them out the Christmas day and not to have to cook.

@LadyDuck I didn't think puff pastry froze very well but obviously it does. That's a really good idea.

It should last quite a while. He can use it straight off the bush until the bushes die.

I'm sorry about the mint. I'm glad the parsley and basil did well.

How cool that you have your own herbs! And just go find an animal with the fresh minty breath and you’ll know who ate your mint.

My freezer is already full of goodies. There are several slices of cakes I made over the last couple of weeks. I have given some to friends, so not the entire thing for me. Most of my herbs are the dried kind

Most cakes freeze really well. You often end up with a bit much if there is only one or two of you. I have most of a banana walnut cake in the freezer.
