'twas the day after Christmas

What a month it's been! And what a year, too!
We had a very nice Christmas yesterday, and a very nice Winter Solstice a few days before that. Oh, it wasn't perfect by any means and a lot of things went wrong -- pouring rain, packages not delivered in time, some gifts that we had set aside were misplaced and simply not found when we went to wrap things, some gifts were accidentally labeled for the wrong person (which caused some slight confusion and awkwardness on Christmas morning), someone we were not expecting at all showed up unannounced for the weekend, etc. -- but despite the lack of perfection, it was enough. There was joy. There were happy memories made and shared. We had good things to eat, and plenty of them. Some of us even had naps!
Today we're enjoying another casual day of sitting around in our pajamas. The kids are playing with some of their new things, the adults are appreciating the lull in the chaos, and later on I'll figure out what I'm doing with the leftovers for dinner.
Whatever holidays you celebrate, I hope they were wonderful.

That's what makes for interesting memories when the time comes.
