The photo I promised

I wrote some time back that we were installing a vertical bed in our second bedroom. When it is not being used, it can be folded up against the wall, thus freeing up the floor space.
We bought Ikea cupboards to go on each side and I also bought a new bedspread for the bed. When I first wrote about it, I promised I’d take a photo of it when it was all finished. So here is the photo.
When you want to put it away, you fold the blankets away from the sides, put a strap over it and lift it up into the space. There are hydraulic rams on each side which makes lifting the mattress and bedding very easy.
I think that is the last big thing that we need to do in our new house.

I think they are called hide-a-beds or something else here. But, it comes in handy for small spaces.

We call the “Murphy beds” here in America.

@FourWalls I forgot about them being Murphy beds although I remember learning that when I first wrote about them.

That does look nice. What are you using the floor space for when the bed is folded away?

@DaddyEvil This is pretty different from our other house. We didn't really have to think about saving space there.

Terrific idea!! I’ve watched videos of RVs that have Murphy beds (what we call them here….why, I don’t know) in them! What a space-saving idea!

@JudyEv — the Leisure Travel Van company has TWO models with Murphy beds. At about the 5:50 time on the linked video below you’ll see the bed come down, with NO slide! (The other model does have a slide.)

Ikea don't make vertical beds. It must be the only thing they don't make as they seem to make everything else.
