Price drop on toilet paper is ridiculous

On Monday, I bought Quilted Northern toilet paper (my brand of choice) from Walmart. I usually get the 18-mega roll pack. It cost $16.98, which is a good price. I put two of them into my shopping cart but that wasn’t enough for free shipping. I ended up getting two 24-mega roll packs instead for $19.98 each. That gave me free shipping and it cost less per roll than the 18-mega roll pack. The toilet paper arrived on Wednesday, which was super quick. Today I got an email from Capital One Shopping with the title: Save $11.03 on Quilted Northern Bathroom Tissue, 18 Count (Pack of 1). That seemed like a huge discount so I clicked to read the email to see how much it would cost. I thought that instead of $16.98 or a price close to that it would be $11.03 less, which is quite a bargain. That actually wasn’t the case. The sale price was $16.98, which is a discounted price. The initial price was $28.01. I don’t know who the seller is—can find out only if I click the link, which I didn’t do—but having an original price of $28.01 is a rip-off. The $11.03 savings doesn’t seem like a discount to me.

Somebody bought several shipments from Walmart at their discounted price and wash hoping to pass it on to others at the regular price so claimed they were offering it at a huge markdown. A lot of people won't know how much they were paying for it in Walmart so will fall for that.

@lovebuglena Yeah, it would have been interesting to know that.

That certainly is no bargain, I think toilet paper as such is overpriced anyway, I try to manage by looking over all they offer before I put in my grocery orders online,

I buy only this brand. I did buy Charmin once at the height of the pandemic, which I don’t like, but that was because I couldn’t find Quilted Northern anywhere in stores or online for a price that wasn’t way overpriced.

@kobesbuddy I think so as well. Would only get it again if no other choice.

If I am going to compare the price here in my country, it is quite pricey.

It's, indeed, satisfying to see some bargains or money-savers for essentials things. We get the from Woolies, $AU 9.80/24 3 ply quilted.

You always have to be on high alert when ordering online.

Definitely. It’s very easy to set a high price for something and then discount it, making the customer think they are getting a great discount, when in reality they are not.

That's because it's not. It's rebranding to make it sound like a bargin. Marketing at its finest in my opinion.

I'm wondering if prices will go up here once we open our border.

Hopefully, they will not. But the nerve of some people to really hike up the prices for something essential.

We paid $19.98 for 24-Mega roll pack of Northern Quilted TP. That's the going price, here in Michigan.

I’ve not seen a 24-mega roll pack here in stores where I shop. 18-roll pack is the biggest I’ve seen. But 19.98 is a good price.

That’s not good. People need good toilet paper and not everyone can spend a lot of money on it.
