An unintended long walk round a hospital

After I left my husband in the emergency department a few days ago, I drove home to our gated village to wait for a phone call. It was an easy 15-minute drive and was well-signposted so I had no trouble getting home. Around 4.00pm I received a call to bring in some toiletries as Vince would be staying the night. This time I drove straight to the parking area but hadn’t thought about having to buy/obtain a ticket. I needed to tap my card at the entry but my handbag was behind me on the back seat of the car. Luckily I was able to reach it without getting out of the car as I was parked too close to the machine to be able to get out. Also luckily no-one was impatiently waiting behind me. I eventually found my way to his room but they were still cleaning it. I was directed to a small sitting area to wait. When he was duly installed and he was all sorted, I left as I wanted to get home before dark. Walking out of the hospital, I turned the wrong way and ended up having to walk right around the hospital block before getting back to my car. I had to tap my card again to get out but I was ready this time. By now, it was almost dark and my troubles were not over. More next time…..

That doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me. I hate when those kinds of things happen to me.

It's a new place and sometimes it takes more than 2 times to get the feel of a place. Hopefully next time you'll get it right.

The stupid thing was, despite being extra watchful, I did the same thing next day.

@rebelann I will take much more notice of landmarks within the hospital next time.

I'm glad we know you made it home and are alright now... I have gotten lost trying to drive home and it's not fun at all...

I'm just glad we'd travelled much the same road a number of times to go to the chiropractor. That part of it was relatively simple.

@JudyEv For a while I was having memory issues. I'd be driving on the highway I drove back and forth to work on and suddenly be lost... It turned out that my blood pressure being out of whack was causing that.

@DaddyEvil That would have been very concerning. It's good to be given a reason for these things. It lessens the worry.

@JudyEv Sounds like the one dad was in, in Columbus Ohio. I made sure to remember what color parking lot I parked in. Then just followed the signs inside to get back out. Of course finding dads room each time was an adventure too

@wolfgirl569 The signs in this one didn't seem easy to follow for some reason.

@JudyEv What did they find? Is he OK?

@TheHorse He's okay, thanks. He has atrial fibrillation which means the beating of the chambers of the heart gets out of sync, causing all sorts of problems. He is on different medication but it seems it will happen from time to time.

I'm okay when I know where I'm going but driving at night is starting to get a bit harder.

@JudyEv I’m sure it was very stressful and tiring. Besides that, I’m sure you were very worried about Vince, too.

I thought I had a reasonable sense of direction but it doesn't seem to work in cities/hospitals.

add to the story the amount of stress you had to be feeling. so anything that seems out of place, would be 10 times worse.

He is fine thanks. Has different tablets and appointments in the next few weeks. The atrial fibrillation will be something we will have to learn to live with.
