It's virtually my birthday

As I draw near turning 40 (!) on Feb. 1st - Covid numbers are still really high here. I would like to go out to eat but I don't know if even that is "safe". I was planning on having a 40th party... but I don't think it's smart right now to get a bunch of people together. :-( So my promise to myself is that sometime during this year I'm going to take a trip to Vegas! I was thinking at the end of Feb. but I just don't know what will be happening with cases and numbers. So... at whichever time it appears more safe. *sigh*
In the meantime I like what I came up with last year - which was I "gifted" myself some online experiences. I did a game that happened over texts which was a cool concept. I did a virtual bingo game which was fun. A painting class, and a murder mystery. They were all pretty good, and I was expecting similar selections this year, but to my surprise - there's not as much to pick from. While you can still find virtual events - now a lot of hosts insist that you book a group instead of buying an individual ticket. So much for that idea, I guess. So who knows... maybe I will order some delivery, rent a movie, something. A lot more low key than I would like, but... keeping healthy and not exposing my mom to germs is worth it to me.

I love what you came up with for last year. It’s to bad most aren’t an option you can choose again this year. I do hope you are able to find something fun to do for your birthday! I haven’t eaten inside a restaurant since Covid hit the U.S.

@FayeHazel my husband wishes I would go out he rolls his eyes when I say I don’t want to go eat in any restaurants. He doesn’t wear a mask anywhere and isn’t vaccinated.

@shaggin Eeek. I don't blame you for staying in. Stay safe. It's just too risky is my opinion. I hope you and your husband stay well too

Thanks! It really was sort of fun and special. Too bad online events aren't as plentiful this year. :-/ Thanks, I'll find a way to make it special this year. Wow! You're doing good. I made it just about a year (not quite) and my mom more than a year. This summer we started going out when case numbers were low in this area

Happy Birthday in advance the dear heart Faye..Would you be taking Mama with you?
to Vegas if you go
I know right, such a sad thing we must not be in groups and be careful going out.

Thanks! I've asked Momma about Vegas and so far she says no. It doesn't seem bad to her, but she was there back in the 60s - didn't enjoy it. Yes. Pity. I really thought I could have my 40th birthday party

That's good you are more concerned about the germs and your mom over your birthday. But still sucky that you don't have much to choose from online etc.

Aw thanks. I know it bites to think about the fun things I/we could be doing... but better safer for now. I still managed to have some fun though it did come with some calculated risk. I suppose almost anything now does

Safe is a relative term these days. I think one thing we have learned from this is is that stsying home or going out, I don't think it matters. You'll remember back when Cuomo had some of the strictest lockdowns during this whole thing early on and his numbers soared.
At some point we just have to deal with it and get on with life. Happy birthday, and have a good time.

I respect your outlook and appreciate your advice... though my mom is immune compromised and has kidney damage. She is also my only family I have left. I never married, and I have no kids, no significant other... so it's fairly important to me to keep her healthy. (Well, it would still be important to me to keep her healthy even if I had other family, but... yknow) This is something that she shouldn't catch. I just ... literally... couldn't live with myself if my actions exposed her in a worst case scenerio.
But you have a point. I have known some fairly cautious people who have gotten this thing. All it takes is the right exposure at the right time I guess. We can mostly isolate but hard to be 100% isolated, still need to function in the world somewhat.

@FayeHazel That was sort of my point even if I fully understand and respect your situation. But I don't think any of the precautions matter. If they did we would not still be talking about this three years later.

@porwest The thing that got me was - there was some tribe, some remote tribe entirely cut off from the outside world ... and even those people started getting it. HOW? Argh. Yes on a global type basis it would appear as though this thing keeps cropping up even though precautions have been taken or the case of those tribal people -- but on a personal level - the more people one is around , the more out and about one is = the more chances of getting it.

Since the covid started, I am not giving any parties at home. I open my house to 6 to 8 people at one time. And they have to be vaccinated and get into the house with masks.

I think that's wise. Do they wear masks while in your house? I think it's a wise and cautious idea
