My new acquisition - a freebie

I went to a new dental clinic the other day as we’ve moved several hours from our old one. I was due for a check-up but once I chipped a piece off a tooth, it was all that was needed to push me to find a new clinic. I’m pleased to be able to say the tooth now has a new filling and I’ve also had a scale and clean. I think having a filling is less uncomfortable than a scale and clean. My old practice sent my records through while I was there which I thought was pretty cool. I had the filling one day and was given a ‘tooth-pick’ which looks like a tiny bottle-brush. The idea is to use it get gunk out from between your teeth where flossing and brushing might not reach. I couldn’t get the hang of it at all. I was trying to use it like floss. I took it back the second day and, with the aid of a mirror, the 16-year-old (well, that’s all she looked) explained that you just inserted the pick between the teeth at the gumline and pulled it back out. QED! (I’ll write about that next time) I guess these picks have been around a long time and most might know how to use them but it was a whole new ball game to me.

I use those small interdental small brushes from many years, I have several different sizes. I buy big boxes of them, I change every week.

@JudyEv I have the three sizes, for my back teeth I need very tiny ones. I buy at Aldi.

@LadyDuck I'll have a look for them in Aldi here. I guess otherwise the chemist would have them.

@RasmaSandra That's good if you haven't needed to go. My teeth are mostly okay but I want to keep them that way so now I go for my check-ups. I didn't look after them well enough as a child.

I had something like that when I had braces. I hated it, especially when food did get stuck between my teeth. I've popped wires trying to use them.

I was trying to push them up and down and of course they were just bending.

I've made my next appointment (in July). Otherwise I would put it off forever.

@JudyEv You have to twirl them when they are between your teeth, that is the secret.

I'm still trying to get the hang of these but they do seem to pick up stuff that the brush doesn't remove.

It was another example where I didn't know if everyone would know about them or almost no-one.

A toothbrush doesn't really get between the back teeth. I'm hoping this will help.

I use little brushes like this but I tend to prefer the plastic ones. Some of those wire type got caught between my teeth and the wire broke. But I prefer these to floss - I never could get the hang of dental floss, I would end up with dribble running down my wrists, yuk!

I'll have to have a look at what's available. The dentist gave me two but said there are different sizes. I can use the floss on the fronts and sides but it's really difficult on the back teeth. And yes, I dribble too.

I've always had trouble with those little brush thingies. I use a flossing handle which seems to do the trick

My fingers seem to be twice the normal size when I'm trying wield the bottle brush affair. I have the flossing things with handles too. I get on better with them.

It seems some are thicker than others. Only the smallest will fit between my back teeth.

I'm very glad that I didn't need to have the tooth out. It seems some people haven't seen the picks before.
