Bridge Collapses in Pittsburgh

Another mishap as a result of the government. A one TRILLION dollar bill was passed for infrastructure last year. Suppose to repair and maintain the nation’s roads, bridges and railways. So far there are still hundreds of bridges and thousands of roads not repaired. Just today a bridge in Pittsburgh collapsed and sent three to the hospital due to a massive gas leak as well. Biden is scheduled to visit Pittsburgh today to talk about... infrastructure. Should be an interesting speech. A little late for repairs in this case.
A Pittsburgh bridge collapse caused by a massive gas leaks leaves 3 hospitalized and 10 injured prior to President Joe Biden's visit

Infrastructure has been neglected for decades. Always money to spend on idiocy and to give to other countries but nothing substantial to correct known flaws in existing structures. Our elected officials are either corrupt or inept. Both the GOP and Dems voted and allocated money for a border wall but when Trump actually began to complete the work they had already voted and paid for, they scream racist. It's unbelievable. The most basic issue, protect our border, is tied up in red tape and inaction. It's the same with the rest of the aging infrastructure in the US. Our officials pledge to address the issue and allocate funds but the projects are rarely completed due to the funds being spent on the committees and advisors. They plan and they have meeting and make recommendations but the projects stall time and again. It takes disaster for our leaders to even mention the issue. Many things improved under the last Administration but here we are back to business as usual.

You are right about that. I have always heard about and seen many roads and bridges crumbling. It should not take a new "bill" to get anything done. And now the wall Trump started is laying on the ground, rusting. Meanwhile we see what is going on at our border. The funds rarely go to what they are suppose to. Biden made sure to undo anything Trump started. What a mess.

@CarolDM It is a mess. The next POTUS will then undo everything Biden did. This after Trump undid what Obama had done. The sad part is that the US resurgence under 45 went unnoticed by those leaning left. This kind of hate will be our undoing as a Republic.

@Vikingswest1 You are exactly right. I do't know how much more we can stand of the present staff.

Instead of talking about it, people should actually do something. Three hospitalized, while not good by any streach, it could've been far worse.

Yikes, that's a bummer. I'll have to see if I can find it on YouTube, I don't pay for cable and there are no local channels that I can view.

Thanks. I can't believe no one tried to fix this issue before it got this bad.

The bill was passed November 6. That’s 83 days ago. Even if all of the money was immediately magically disbursed do you honestly think that ANY of the necessary work would have been started by now?

@CarolDM Of course it should have already been done or in progress but unfortunately that is not the case. Just the planning, bidding, and obtaining materials, etc. will take months and years.

@NJChicaa How do you explain the decades of neglect. Instead "Mayor Pete" talks about equity. He also laid out his argument that highway design can reflect racism, noting that at least $1 billion in the bill will help reconnect cities and neighborhoods that had been racially segregated or divided by road projects. This could account for more delay.

Even without the bill, the work should have already been going on. The roads and bridges are literally falling apart. Yes, ALL work should have been ongoing.
