Another minor repair

Next on my list of minor repairs was this lap tray. I’ve had it several years already and it gets used a lot, for writing and drawing while sitting on the sofa (for me or the girls), for writing or using my laptop in bed, and even for working in the car when my partner is driving!
I think it got dropped on one corner and that disrupted the joints, and then it kept being picked up by one edge - eventually the edging fell off one end. I tried gluing it back on but it soon came loose again, and then after that the long sides also came loose and one of those fell off too.
It looked as though it was destined for the bin. But then I needed a staple gun to help with building scenery for our village pantomime, and as I was about to put that away I thought maybe I would give that a try.
So I carefully reassembled all the bits, held them tightly together and stapled the corners at the back. Then I turned it over and stapled the corners at the front too. Then I dribbled PVA glue all around the edges where they meet the flat ‘tray’ part, and into all the corner joints, and left it overnight.
My expectations were not too high but that was a good few weeks ago no and so far so good. It might not be quite as aesthetically pleasing as it was before, but it does what it’s meant to do so it was definitely worth it!

@Fleura I would have done the same. Look at this natty thing we bought to make picture frames. We used to glue them then clamp them with this gadget. When it was all set, we then add staples. They have gadgets for everything nowadays.

As long as it is fit for the purpose you put it to, I don't see why a staple in each corner mars the look of it. *shrug*
I've got some mirrors on my wall above my headboard that I got from somewhere when Pretty was little. They have fake "illusions" printed on their surface... I like them but the "silver" finish on the frames has worn away over the years and I have no idea how to renew them... I was thinking I could just paint them but I'd rather have the frames look like chrome again. Do you have any ideas for that?
Thanks for any help you can suggest.

Well I've never tried it but you can get 'chrome-effect' spray paint, you could give that a go. It's the kind of thing you find in a car parts shop, or of course Amazon.
If you have some similar (but unimportant) sort of material to test it on first that would be a good idea. And have a look through reviews for other users' tips.

@Fleura Thank you. I'll look into that. It might work. (I don't normally notice them anymore but Pretty asked me why I kept such ugly mirrors.

I thought that was a framed picture...
Your fix should hold as long as no one mistreats the tray.
