I am not a fan of winter, so I decided to put together a music trivia quiz to reflect my view towards snow, ice and cold. And what better way to escape those winter blues than to get away from it all and go someplace warm or just different. Yes, nothing like exploring another place whether real or imagined taking your mind off where you are... in my case the northeastern U.S.A.
I just had to post a music trivia series this week after experiencing a foot and a half of snow in my area recently. And the theme for today's song selections is just how I'm feeling after shoveling out of that wintery weather...Lennie Kravitz's song called "Fly Away."
As the tune says, "I Want To Get Away" and the Bahamas or anywhere without snow sounds pretty good to me. So, let's see where we wind up on today's musical journey! Enjoy the commercial clip, it should warm you right up... Now, onward to a few warmer climates.
(Remember words in quotations can provide hints to the music trivia answers)
Whodunnit- Name those songs and artists:
1. How about taking a journey to a "Central American" country. That's what these artists had in mind when they recorded this "1984" classic. Well, not really. It was about a car, but also a female nightclub performer "Diamond Dave," the lead singer of this group knew. Still, the song title is the same as this "country" with the famous "canal." This was one of the last songs the lead singer recorded for this band. He was replaced by "Sammy Hagar in 1986." The group had some really popular crazy videos like "Jump" and "Hot For Teacher," which played endlessly on MTV.
-Do you know this band named after a pair of brothers and their song with the Latin American name?
2. This artist's song is about an "island off the coast of Florida," one I had the fortune of visiting during my spring break college days. This "island" was also the "setting for the 1948 movie" of the same name, "starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall." This singer grew up in Florida and spent a lot of time in that location, using both the movie and personal experience to inspire a tune about a failed romance. This "1981 single" reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts and was his "only big hit." He continued recording island style songs labeled "trop rock," similar in style to "another artist," but unlike him this singer was a "one-hit-wonder."
Fun fact: This song was the artists plea to his old girlfriend to return to him. She did and they got married after the song was released.
-Do you know the name of this island song which mentions "Bogie and Becall" and the artist who recorded it?
BONUS!!! Do you know the "name of that other artist" I mentioned above, who became well-known for his style of tropical rock? He was the answer to the prior music trivia quiz.
3. If you watched the "video" you would have noticed the different forms of transportation in it. Can you name at least 3 of them?
Ok, "let's not get shipwrecked " while figuring out these song and artist answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as Billy Swan would say, "I Can Help."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new music trivia edition in 2 weeks. Hope you can wait till then.

Never was a fan of Diamond Dave. I like Sam Halen better. You can take that all the way to the bank of Panama!
And poor Bertie Higgins. Nobody can remember his name, Sweetheart. Here’s looking at you, kid was in Casablanca, not Key Largo. (Oh, they have the boat used in African Queen in Key Largo, available for tours!) You know, DB, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship!
PS: is that horse in the video the one that America never gave a name to in “A Horse With No Name”???????
(Does a surfboard count as transportation?)

Yes, David Lee could be quite a jackass, couldn't he? But he did write some catchy tunes for Van Halen to record. Guess in the end he was "Just A Gigolo" latching onto the talent of Eddie.
Yes, the "kid" line should've been used in his follow up attempt with his other Bogie inspired song "Casablanca." Oh, a kiss is still a kiss in Casablanca...

A horse is a horse of course of course

3 cheers for some excellent responses!

@dgobucks226 I remember the pig but not the surfboard. Though I don't consider the pig a mode of transportation.

Shoveling is the worst! Just ask my aching back
Enjoy... Not really a quiz as music lovers sharing a bit of trivia. Although always fun to see what songs I'm talking about. Here's one from this trivia post you might have heard of...
