I finally have a terrific veggie grater!!! (I'm not hard to please)

I recently wrote about a veggie planer I bought and was so aggravated when it didn't work well. I returned it to Walmart for a refund, then decided on one from Amazon. Do you have any idea how many different kinds of graters and small food processors are for sale on Amazon? Thousands!! And so many are identical (probably all made in the same warehouse.) It will give you a headache just deciding which one to buy. But that's actually a blessing to have so many to choose from. Even if most of them will be defective when you take it out of the box! But I'm so pleased with the one I bought...it's a Loyalmaster manual rotary grater. I like that it's small and easy to store and it sliced my potatoes exactly like I want them. There are more expensive models, but this is just what I wanted. Like I said, I'm not hard to please.

I bet that thing will provide many years of good service for you. I never use tools like this and sometimes I wonder why as I slice and dice and grate everything by hand.

I never minded doing everything by hand, but to get potatoes as thin as I wanted, I kept scraping my knuckles. This little gadget works so well, it's fast, and no cut fingers, only cut potatoes!

@porwest I knew I wouldn't drag out a large food processor just to slice a few potatoes, so I'm glad I bought a small simple manual rotary grater.

@1creekgirl I will sometimes break out my food processor to thin slice potatoes for au gratin or scalloped. But yes, sometimes you can mistime the hand grater with certain things, and that can be a really bad day.

That sounds like something I could use. I slice all of my potatoes myself by hand, I do grate cheese with a small hand held grater, which is time consuming.

@1creekgirl Those are the best tools in our kitchen, the ones that are dishwasher safe.

@Juliaacv That's the truth! A small plastic broke off my grater today and I thought, "Oh no! I don't want to have to send this back!" But Dale looked at it and he thinks it was just cosmetic. It seems to still work fine.

Can you make veggie noodles with this (that is what I have wanted but can't decide on which one!)? I had one sort of like the one you have pictured for grating cheese . . . argh but it fell apart. Enjoy your new kitchen toy - glad to hear it's worked out well!

I'm not sure about making noodles. Nothing is made well anymore and I really don't expect this grater to, either. But I'll enjoy it as long as I can!

@1creekgirl Oh, I mean vegetable noodle cuts - like zoodles (zuchinni strands cut to look like noodles). Your new grater looks promising though . . . is it easy to clean?

@much2say There are two more attachments that I don't know what they do. It is easy to clean , just put in the dishwasher except for the base.

I have one, almost identical, pretty old, made by Zyliss. I bought an electric one to try and it went back to the store.

@1creekgirl I prefer my old manual, the electric did a very poor job.

That's great that you got a grater that you are happy with. So many varieties don't really work well.

I got myself a mini food processor, the only bit about using it I don't enjoy is the washing up!

I may have to get one myself. I've shopped for them before and been totally overwhelmed by the selection.

That's exactly how I felt! Just too confusing with so many options.
