February 8 - What I'm Thankful for Today

I’ve been thinking about being thankful and came up with an acrostic. T is for Time. We can be great wasters of time or use our time efficiently and productively. We give time away when we help others. Do you waste time or are you helpful and productive? One wasteful use of time for me is playing games. I never played them before my son moved in with me when I owned my home. Since then, it’s almost an addiction. One I need to break. H is for Home, Health, and Hearing. Many people are homeless and only have a cardboard box to call home. Having a roof over your head is a blessing. Health is another blessing many people don’t have as they deal with many health issues, including COVID-19 and the many variants. If you’re in good health, you are blessed. Hearing is another blessing many people struggle with. As people age, they find the need for hearing aids. Some people are born deaf. If you have good hearing, you are blessed. A is for Anticipation, Appreciation, Acceptance. When you’re expecting something, the anticipation can be overwhelming. Birthdays, vacations, holidays, new babies, graduation, marriage, retirement, all provide moments of anticipation. Anticipation brings moments of joy and excitement and many blessings. When you appreciate what people do for you, people will see it and know it in your gratefulness. When you accept people for who they are, you will find friendship easy. N is for Noise. Many people with hearing problems can’t hear the chirp of a bird singing in the trees, the laughter of children playing, night sounds on a quiet night. There is also traffic noise, horns, people shouting. And there is the noise of silence. Sometimes it’s the loudest sound of all. K is for Kindness. Kindness puts a smile on a person’s face and causes you to show kindness in return. It’s the unexpected kindness of strangers when you don’t know where help will come from. It’s the love between two people who show kindness in little things. F is for Forgiveness, Friendship. We all have moments when we do something or say something and immediately regret our actions. It’s in times like that when someone goes the extra mile and forgives you for being human. Do you want friends? Most of us do. When you offer people the gift of friendship by showing yourself friendly, it will be easy to make friends. U is for Understanding. Everyone wants to be understood. When the world is against you and you can’t seem to get it right. It’s good to know you’re not alone when someone comes alongside you and gives you a helping hand, listens, is just there with a smile of hope. L is for Love. As the song says, What the World Needs Now Is Love, Sweet Love. There is too much hate going around in the world. Wars, discontent, anger. It’s easy to give in to those emotions. What’s hard is loving someone unconditionally. Going the extra mile. Sticking it out when you want to throw in the towel. Love is there with a smile, encouragement, a hand on your shoulder. It sticks by your side when you’re going through the worst that life can throw your way. Love promises to never leave you or forsake you. It’s there when the going gets tough. Are you THANKFUL today?
