We Need a Smarter TV / myLot

My missus and I are watching TV but keep pausing it for phone calls and other interruptions. Then, when it's time to go back to watching, I have to press the button on the remote control. Our TV is an older generation Smart TV. I suggested to my wife that we need a newer, Smarter TV, one that knows when to turn itself back on. I got the look. You know the look. The look wives give their husbands when the husband says something like, "We need a smarter TV."

At least she didn’t say, “It’s not the TV that needs to be smarter, it’s the guy holding the remote.” (She didn’t say that, did she???????

Well as @just4him says, you can get an Alexa or similar device - if you don't mind having everything you say and do recorded. And of course that won't work so well if your wife's name is Alexa

I know the look, or I should say, my kids, know the look well. There is a smarter TV. If you have an Alexa, you can even tell Alexa to turn the TV back on. I wish I had one of those myself.

We have an Alexa Fire Stick. She will turn on the TV for me. So far, asking her to resume the program we were just watching is still a challenge for her. Or maybe it's the way I say it. Sometimes Alexa doesn't understand my accent.

@DWDavis That's good she turns on your TV. When I pause music on my Alexa, I just say Alexa resume music.

We might get one at some point in the future, but there are more pressing things around the house that need our attention. New windows are one. Our house is 30 years old now and the original windows were not the best quality when installed. With the mortgage nearly paid off, we can finally look into replacing them.
