Had my three month session of Botox for migraines

I received about 29 (but who's counting!) tiny injections of Botox for my migraines today. I always lose count of how many injections are going into my head, neck and shoulders. Sure hope the doctor's counting, lol. The needles are tiny and not so painful, but the medicine going in is the kicker. I usually see a nurse practitioner and I'd rather get the shots from her than the doctor. She's trying another pill to see if that will help keep the headaches down since the Botox works a little less each time I get them. I'm not optimistic about it. It's another one of those new drugs with no generic, so it's probably terribly expensive. But we'll see. I'm still better off than I was before Botox. Hope your day was more fun than mine!

Those flowers are beauties Vicki. I am so sorry you have to go through this..I honestly do not know how you do it!! You are so brave. So are they trying to get you off the shots and onto pills is that right?

Since the shots are not working quite as well, we're trying to find pills that help to eventually not need the shots. But, we'll see. Thank you for your kind words.

@RebeccasFarm Thanks, I'm really blessed that I haven't had migraines all my life. My father had them and our grandson Nathan had them as a child, but seems to have outgrown them. I've had the auras, but never the headaches until two or three years ago.

I'm sorry something can't be done to stop your migraines. They must be very debilitating.

I'm thankful mine are chronic and not acute. The classic kind are horribly painful. Mine aren't as severe, but more often.

@JudyEv I'v been a late bloomer in so many things in my life. I didn't start having migraines until I was in my 60s. Although I had auras for years without the headaches.

Often nurses are a lot better than doctor for injections. I hope the pills will work.

@1creekgirl - Most of the time doctors hurt more.

@LadyDuck I know my nurse practitioner has had lots more experience with the injections.

Thanks, Anna. I know my nurse practitioner has more experience than my doctor with injections.

Hope the pill helps, but the cost is another worry. Just as long as it doesn't cause a migraine!

You're right! The cost can cause a big headache.

Thankfully migraine excedrin works on most of my migraines (though I occasionally FAR exceed the recommended maximum dosage).

Yeah, I take Tylenol Migraine which is the generic Excedrin, but I was taking too many which actually made the headaches worse. So I try really hard to not over use it.

I've had migraines for years but started taking a half of a Soma for them several years ago. I go to sleep and when I wake up, the migraine is gone.

That's really wonderful that you have found something that works for you. I was so pleased that the Botox was helping me for almost a year, but the headaches are gradually coming back.

My cousin used to get them for migraines too. She had to stop though for some reason

I wonder what happened. This is the first time I've hurt the next morning from the shots themselves.

and if I'm not mistaken, till now, doctors don't know the cause of migraine right?
