In honor of the expensive February I’m having (the crawl space bill and the whopping 24 bucks to the IRS ) I’m doing a countdown of songs with “poor” in the title. I’m really not, but it’s a good joke. Let’s kick it off with perfect “poor” music. #10: Don’t You Want to Be My Girl (Poor Little Doll) - Jim Reeves I mean, what screams “I’m poor as heck” more than country music? Gentleman Jim (my favorite singer, for those new to the site, or for those who may have forgotten since I last mentioned it 43 seconds ago) drops by yet again, this time singing in his more natural voice. (I’ve mentioned how the record labels wanted him to avoid his normal baritone because they thought baritone singers wouldn’t sell well….tell it to Tennessee Ernie Ford, is all I can say!) For those who are allergic to country music: this is less than two minutes long, and it’s not hayseed country. So it’ll cause a mild migraine at worst. A little Jim Reeves always gets the day going right! Don’t You Want to Be My Girl (Poor Little Doll) Written by Nellie Smith and Leona Butram Recorded by Jim Reeves From According to My Heart, 1960 I’ll let the world see that you’ve got me hooked:

My uncle was a fan of Jim Reeves. He played bass in my Dad's band. And he sang.

If you hear anything from him anymore it’s “He’ll Have to Go” or my namesake song (“Four Walls”). I grew up with his albums in my house, and my parents found it VERY easy to shop for me for Christmas and my birthday. More Jim Reeves albums!

Haha, doesn't anything scream "poor" then country music? I love that. I like SOME country music, but I think the guy from my young era, (Bruce Springsteen, John Mellancamp, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi) etc are the the way to go!

Jim Reeves is the guy from my young era. Can’t help myself. You’ll discover, if you dare to watch these music countdowns, that I go all over the board musically. I occasionally have to remind people my account hasn’t been hacked when I post Eddy Arnold the day after the Clash.
