I am not a fan of winter, so I decided to put together my favorite music trivia songs to reflect my view towards snow, ice and cold. And what better way to escape those winter blues than to get away from it all and go someplace warm or just different. Yes, nothing like exploring another place whether real or imagined taking your mind off where you are... in my case the northeastern U.S.A.
Today I decided to travel across the pond to "Jolly Old England." It's not warm, but for me different and a change of scenery. So, let's see what songs we can find about England mates...
Here's a tune to get you in the mood (y). It must be teatime...enjoy a sip and listen to an "English Sunset" by The Moody Blues. Hope you gave this song a listen, it's "brilliant!" Now let's have a "gander" at today's trivia music challenge.
(Remember words in quotations can provide hints to the music trivia answers)
Whodunnit- Name those songs and artists:
1. This "English band" unleashed their 1965 smash hit to a raging "mod crowd" in London, and it's now the band’s most recognizable hit. The guitarist wrote this song for the rebellious British youths known as "mods." It expressed their feeling that older people just don't get it. The "song" is delivered by the lead singer in an "angry stutter" making the tune so unique. The band later used the mod theme again in a "rock opera called Quadrophenia," based on a mod called Jimmy, and his search for importance and self-worth in British society. In 1967 the "guitarist" of this band, while performing this number live, "smashed his guitar into his amplifier" at the close of the song. It would not be the only time he did this! You might remember this group from another of their "rock operas about a deaf, dumb, and blind boy." The song "Pinball Wizard," performed in the film adaptation of this LP by Elton John, became a hit single for the band.
-Do you know the name of this English band who "would rather die than grow old," and their song about kids trying to find their place in British society?
2. This #1 song from 1967 was written by the "cute one" in this "English rock band foursome." The lyrics describe the surroundings he sees while waiting for his fellow group member "John" to show up. He later turned all these images, including the iconic "barber shop," where he had his hair cut as a youth, into this "Psychedelic pop song." The tune was included on the group's "Magical Mystery Tour" album. If you can put these 2 clues together you've got the mystery song title. 1. Another word for a one cent coin is a _____________. 2. Another description for a narrow road or pathway is a __________.
Fun fact: This song and another called "Strawberry Fields Forever" were used as a promotional film clip for this "Liverpool" road.
-Do you know the name of this famous song which uses the "title of a road" and the band who recorded it?
3. This is a popular song recorded in 1966 which mentions an "English landmark established in 1001."
The structure also goes by the name "Church of the Holy Trinity, Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint Swithun." It is one of the "largest church buildings" in Northern Europe, located in this "city" which bears "its name." The song was recorded by a "British novelty group" and the tune reached #4 in the UK, and #1 in the U.S. The songwriter was a fan of tunes from the "vaudeville era," which inspired him to compose this single. The "song title" is the same as this "British Church," who as the song lyrics say; "Could have done something, but didn't try, didn't do nothing, Let her walk by."
-Do you know the name of this vaudeville inspired band and their song which mentions a famous city and church?
***Honorable Mention- "Up the Junction" by Squeeze
Not sure if your familiar with this group, but one of my favorite English rock bands. These guys are "Ace" (excellent)
Ok, "let's not throw a wobbly " (have a tantrum) while figuring out these song and artist answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as Billy Swan would say, "I Can Help."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new music trivia edition in 2 weeks. Hope you can wait till then,
Stay tuned...

@dgobucks226 I should have known that as it was My Generation. I thought it might have been The Kids Are Alright but I decided against that choice.

1. They Might Be Giants turned that around in a song on their first album with the song “I Hope That I Get Old Before I Die.”
Obviously not Pete & Roger & Keith & John’s generation.
2. I think that’s what’s causes all those stinking traffic circles these days: somebody said, “Hey, there’s a roundabout mentioned in ‘Penny Lane,’ so why don’t we put 40 on this road?”
Later a member of Wings would sing, “Denny Laine is in my ears and in my eyes….”
3. And at this point I have to quote Homer & Jethro’s rendition of that song:
Winchester Cathedral, you’re doing me dirt
They finally wrote one that we couldn’t hurt.
Fun fact: Graham Nash mentioned Winchester Cathedral in his song “Cathedral” (on the CSN album). He said the song is “about my favorite acid trip.”
His song is a little better than the New Vaudeville Band’s song from the 60s, IMO.
HONORABLE MENTION: I’ll meet you in Piccadilly and we’ll go pull mussels from the shell!! Squeeze is one of my favorite bands!!!!! Totally agree with you!!!!

@dgobucks226 I only got it based on your clues. I've never heard Penny Lane. Don't bother. I don't like the Beatles.
I've never heard of New Vaudeville Band.

Penny Lane is a wonderful song. When the boys were young they used to meet at this bus station as it was a hub to get them anywhere they wanted to go and was centrally located to all of them. This song clip was the first time the Beatles appeared with facial hair. Check out the video...
