Two steps forward, one step back, or maybe three

The doctor changed medicines for hubby. He started waking up at a decent time, and not napping. He gained three pounds in four days. Went back for a recheck. Was told to go back on one medicine, and another was added. Guess who is sleeping all of the time now. Yes, hubby. We were supposed to go see my sister today. Guess I will go alone. His fatigue is wearing me out.

What is the underlying issue?

He says "old age". He has heart failure, and a-fib. Arthritis symptoms. Back pain. Kidney failure. Possibly bleeding in the stomach. Doctor wants some tests to rule out various cancers. He has survived prostate cancer but feels the treatment led to his stroke, which caused the heart failure and atrial fibrillation.

@GardenGerty Sounds like a lit of variables to deal with. Is he willing to "battle" old age?

@GardenGerty sadly treatment for cancer sure does a number on peoples bodies. My father in law is going to have to undergo dialysis now from 10 years of chemo.

So they don’t care that he’s tired all the time but they don’t want him to put on weight. Well if he’s lying around along being so tired he very likely will put on weight from not being active.

No, they DO want him to put on weight. He is 6 ft. 2 and at one point was down to 138.He gets too sleepy to eat. Primary doctor would take him off of several things but the heart doctor says he needs it. He possibly is bleeding from the stomach, so he is on Prilosec. He is taking iron but gets anemic, that is why she suspects the bleed.

@GardenGerty oh gosh I don’t know how I misunderstood that all so bad. You must be worried sick. Does he notice black stools when he goes the bathroom? My grandfather had that when he had bleeding in the stomach.I can see why they want him to gain weight that is extremely thin for a man of that height

One of the medicines is one the heart doctor says he needs, so that is probably why she put him back on it. The other one will likely only be temporary. She believes he is bleeding from the stomach somewhere. She will do some tests.

Why can't his docs get things right? Yeah, I suppose you'd have to ask an medical pro

In our day and age you have a doctor for every part. If it was strictly up to her at least one would be still d/c'ed. The other is until they find out if he has a stomach bleed. His primary care is the one that got to the bottom of some things about 5 years ago and will keep at it again to help him.

What does d/c'ed mean?

Now that you know which one call the doctor tomorrow. Hopefully they have something else he can take in place of that one.

I suspect one is temporary. It is to help with a stomach bleed that she does not know for sure he has. Tests are being run. The other the heart doctor probably says he has to have. She did d/c one in the same classification.

Heart trouble, anemia, wasting away, possible stomach bleed. He has survived prostate cancer and a stroke and urinary bleeding.

Maybe stop taking the one that was put back on, or at least take a half dose?

This would be getting very 'old' now. When does he go back again?
