Chinese Again 03/04/22

And away we go again. It's a Friday night folks, and while every Friday night is not Chinese delivery night...
Tonight IS Friday Chinese delivery night!
We will get the usual fare of course. Porwest go outside the norm? Don't be silly. But wind up spending a small fortune on the food?
Yeah. I am a sucker for it. What can I say?
For all my talk of being frugal and saving money and pinching pennies, and the hours I spend in Aldi parking lots fishing for abandoned shopping carts to reap the quarters from...
Sometimes you just have to let loose of the purse strings a bit, and Chinese food is my nemesis.
This time I will do a breakdown just for fun. So, what are we going to get and how much is it going to cost?
3 orders of spring rolls (total of 6 rolls) at $3.55 per order. Total, $10.65.
1 order of fried scallops (12 in an order) at $3.85.
1 order of a quart of shrimp fried rice at $8.05.
On to our combination platters that come with pork fried rice and two egg rolls each.
1 combo of beef pepper steak with onion (this one is mine).
1 combo of General Tso's chicken (this one is the wifey's).
$8.35 each for a total of $16.70.
Because of the size of our order we get 8 free crab Rangoon. Yummy stuff, let me tell you.
So how much does it cost? Drumroll please.
Food, $39.25.
Tax, $2.98.
20% tip for the driver, $8.45, but I will round up to $9 because I am a nice guy.
Total bill for our Chinese food tonight?
$51.23
But our bellies will be full and we will have some leftovers, and besides. It's just good eats, folks. So, worth every single penny and just what the doctor ordered after a long week working.

@porwest I like ribeye steaks, prime rib, chicken parm, chicken marsala, chicken saltimbocca, fried fish, shrimp scampi, ham, etc. Also love basmati and jasmine rice, mashed potatoes, risotto, and polenta. Veggies--I'll eat everything except like beets and fennel. As for fruit I won't eat blackberries or blueberries (though I love the flavor of blueberry).
Absolutely NOs for me are olives, sundried tomatoes, and roasted red peppers.
I'm really not that picky.

@NJChicaa Well, those are all pretty good foods. In fact, delicious. You just seem to poopoo a lot of stuff. Looking at this list it must be that teacher's salary. You have some pretty expensive food tastes, but of course on that salary you can afford it.
How's the caviar these days?

Your menu there looks exactly like the one at our favorite Chinese take out place!
We are going to have tacos tonight. The hubby will be the chef because my eye is still bothering me and watering. I know I can't handle chopping onions like this.

I can't wait until my birthday so that I can get more Chinese. I will definitely splurge on some extra appetizers that night. Friday's meal - Meals on Wheels - Vegetable lasagna, spinach, mixed veggies, cranberry juice and mini vanilla wafer cookies

I tried to make a vegetable lasagna once and it turned out horrible. Never could get the vegetables to the tenderness I wanted. I am sure I did something wrong, but the recipe never told me to blanche the veggies or pre cook them. Oh well.

I must say, that's actually rather inexpensive compared to the prices out here! Ok, so I randomly picked one of the restaurants we used to frequent:
Egg rolls - $6.45 (1 order - 4 pcs )
No fried scallop on menu, but fried shrimp (4 pcs) $8.95 (a scallop dish is easily $19.95)
Shrimp fried rice - $12.95
No combo plates here, but even the lunch special starts at $10.95
But hey, a tasty splurge is in order sometimes. We happen to not have eaten out in a couple years - made some of the Chinese stuff at home - not too bad actually. Even made our own fortune cookies

We love Chinese take-out, but there is no Chinese delivery near us, not even via GrubHub or its competitors.
Friday night is normally pizza night for us and, after living here for 28 years, we finally have a place that knows how to make good, northeastern-style pizza.

My dinner meal doesn't even begin to come close to yours. I'm hungry just reading about it! We had a roasted chicken from Walmart, leftover baked beans, and baked potatoes. Pitiful.

@porwest The only thing I like is that Dale gets dark meat and I can make chicken salad out of the white meat.

@1creekgirl For whatever reason I tend to like to eat the meat over rice. But usually we do get quite a bit if extra meat once I boil off the carcass for soup. Some of it goes into soup, and some of it goes into chicken salad for the wifey. Deja vu? lol

I love crab rangoon and to our luck they are made from imitation crab meat so we can enjoy it. Unless it depends on the restaurant making it.
Your total seems like a high bill but you also seem to have a lot of stuff in your order. At the place we usually order Chinese (they also have Pan Asian and some Thai) from that's close to our house the main course would not be under $10. Heck, it'd probably be close to $20.
I don't think I've seen scallops on their menu. But then again as I don't eat seafood and don't look for that stuff on the menu I probably didn't notice it and it was there.
Oh, and your post made me crave for Chinese all of a sudden. But as we order out (if we don't go out) only on Saturdays I will have to boil some pasta and fry up some beef bacon and make that our dinner instead.
