My mother-in-law gave us a container of red caviar. She should've given us some white bread to go with it. Not gonna eat it by the spoon.
I mean I will gladly do that but I prefer it on top of some fresh white bread that has been buttered. I guess will have to hold off on it until we buy some bread.
Speaking of caviar, hubby's 40th birthday was Wednesday and yesterday we went to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate. It was just us, my parents, his parents, and his brother. One of the things we ordered there was ikura (salmon roe) sushi and masago (small roe) sushi, both with quail egg on top.
Hubby was the one that turned me on to it. I didn't even know such a thing existed till I met him. I love it! It's so good. I can eat more than one of each. I wasn't sure what everyone besides us would think of it. His brother and parents seemed to enjoy it. My dad tried the ikura one and wasn't much of a fan, so didn't eat the masago one. My mom was skeptical about trying either of them because of the raw quail egg. I persuaded her to do it and she loved it.

It reminds me we bought the caviar after we had a travel to Russia several years ago. I heard it was something delicious and precious and therefore I'd like to have a try. So we tried it when we had a dinner but my family and I didn't get used to the taste anyway. It was a little disappointing. Perhaps we just didn't know how to eat it in a better way.

It depends on the quality of the caviar. Sometimes it tastes very fishy or seaweedy. I hate that. Or it can be over salted. That’s not good either. Did you buy red caviar or black caviar?

Not every sushi spot has that. Like they will have ikura or masago sushi but not the quail egg.

@RebeccasFarm Yeah, I love caviar and quail egg. I also love caviar on a hard boiled chicken egg. And on top of a crepe.

Small one is not salmon though. It’s capelin fish or smelt.

That... doesn't sound like something I'd try, either. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@DaddyEvil I don't know if I'd try a raw chicken egg but raw quail egg is delicious, especially when it bursts in your mouth. If I soft boil a chicken egg or make it sunny side up and the white hasn't completely set I am okay with that. Some will cringe lol.
