Seems like I'm trying to write slogans again, but actually I was reminded of this topic while chatting with @DaddyEvil -- So, apparently our taste buds change as we age. I used to like spicy food , not overly hot mind you. But toward the "medium salsa" level of heat. And now that just feels painful on my tongue. It's tastes good and all, flavor wise but it physically feels like my tongue is on fire. lol. It's annoying and it's not just my usual "medium salsa" level of heat, either. I notice it in other things. The "cheese" coating on the Doritos. "Seasoned" pretzels. And other things that really aren't hot but still produce that fire tongue feeling. Sigh. I love spicy foods too . . . but my stomach can't handle it anymore. Same with dairy stuff . . . I have a limited tolerance for it now. And funny but some bitter vegetables I used to hate - I love them now .

I hated broccoli when I was a kid but love it now. Whenever I want all of something I'm cooking, I just add some broccoli and I get it all. Pretty won't even touch it. (I could add mushrooms because she won't touch those, either but I forget I've got cans of them in the cupboard.)

@DaddyEvil Lol that's pretty smart. I know I'm not a fan of it (broccoli) either. Unless raw and diced fine. The grocery store used to have these little "veggie pizzas". They weren't a traditional pizza - they were a flatbread with dill dip and finely diced broccoli , carrots, pea pods.... so tasty I bet now you're remembering about the mushrooms

I have always liked a madras curry, but found myself tending towards the milder ones now

@FayeHazel I find that korma is a bit too mild, but there are other ones out there that need tasting!

Pretty gets upset because I can't eat "hot" foods anymore and she likes them. *shrug* I can't help it. (She still buys pizza with jalapenos on it but tells me I can't have any. Like I'm going to eat her nasty pizza. )

I enjoy slightly hot food from time to time and used to enjoy eating hot pickled jalapeno peppers, Now my tongue and mouth feel numb if I eat too much spicy food so I avoid it for now,

I've never liked hot and/or spicy things but I can't really say if I'm more sensitive to them now or not.
