Jury Duty calls

Hubby wanted to go away somewhere in April.
Haven't really gone on vacation in years.
Can't do that though because I got a summons for Jury Duty for Monday, April 11th.
Since it's for federal court I am on a two-week phone standby.
I hope it won't happen that I have to call every day for two weeks.
I wonder if I will have to actually report to the courthouse on that date.
I will have to call that Friday to find out.
If I do have to go to the courthouse, wonder if I will be chosen.
I am not jumping for joy to be a juror but not like I have a choice.
If I am chosen I must serve.
It says juror fees are $50/day.
I remember serving on a jury once and it was $40/day.

@lovebuglena We all could, but I am glad I don't have to do it. I don't think I could handle it if it took a long time.

Hope so too, though I could use the money.

@kaylachan If I have to report I hope I won't be sitting there the whole day, especially since we are required to wear a mask.

That is really a nice way to serve your country and its judiciary. I am just curious about the system and how it maintains the security and safety of all since you can be targeted by anyone in the case if the jurors won't favor them. I hope the government can still protect you after the case has been done.

@lovebuglena Ok interesting that you have this Jury system. I guess it's better than not only the lawyers and judges are allowed to assess a case.

I may not even get chosen. Don’t know how it works in terms of security...

Last time I had to go I wasn't chosen and I was very pleased. Perhaps you won't either but it's still an inconvenience to have to hang around.

Not looking forward to sitting in a mask for many hours.

@JudyEv Masks are no longer required in our state and city so not sure why the courthouse requires it still. Unless because it's a federal courthouse.

We don't get anything for the lower court service. I served on a jury many years ago. Glad that's over with.

You don’t get summoned anymore?

@lovebuglena Nope. This was about 20+ years ago.

I filled out the questionnaire online. But to check if you have to report I think it’s phone only.

I wonder how it would be like to be one of the jurors. We don't have a jury system here and don't think we ever will.

I served on a jury once. Thankfully, it wasn't a long trial. I think it lasted only for a few days.

I had to call in every day for the two weeks two or three years ago. Luckily, I was always told I didn't need to go in.
Good luck!

I don’t want to have to call every day. I’d rather go in once and be told that’s it, I’m free to go and don’t need to call anymore. I definitely don’t wanna be a juror.

@lovebuglena I didn't want to be a juror, either. At the time, I was making more than I'd earn as a juror at Walmart. Now, I'm editing manuscripts and wouldn't care. I work on manuscripts while I'm playing on myLot.
