Flower Top Ten: A Different Kind of Flower (#6)

Previously I’ve mentioned my affection for Tommy Smothers as a child. He is a yo-yo master. The weather is trying to impersonate him.
Looks like tomorrow will be a stay-in-and-drink-hot-chocolate day. Poor flowers! Here’s a song from my list of favorites with “flower” in the title that can stand up to the weather.
#6: A Different Kind of Flower - Ray Price
Linda? NO.
After all those years of crossovers in the early 70s (“For the Good Times,” “She’s Got to Be a Saint,” “I Won’t Mention It Again”), Ray Price went back to his shuffling roots. Hooray! I’m not much on that pop-era Price, which was such a 180 from what made him a legend.
Welcome back to the “real” Ray Price: fiddles and shuffles.
Here we have a song with a theme that’s rather common in country music: the rich girl and the poor boy. You can hear this in things from Hank Williams’ “Mansion on a Hill” to Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places.” Eddie Murphy could explain the plot of this song much better (and more profanely, meaning it would be more accurate than my tap-dancing) than I, but suffice it to say Boston girl and southern boy have a quick fling. While he is the one who meant it to be a one-night “love ‘em and leave ‘em” thing, it turns out HE is the one who got smitten.
Karma is a female dog, even in country songs.

I just can’t keep country clover on my mind:

No, because if he had I would’ve killed the record with my not-green thumb.

Stay indoors and enjoy your hot chocolate drink
Poor boy and a rich girl... that was such a popular plot for all love stories here in the 70s and 80s.

Yeah, you’d think we would be tired of the poor boy/rich girl (or poor girl/rich boy) story by now.
Thanks, I have the hot chocolate ready to go!

@FourWalls I guess people were not tired. They made a tons of them and most of them were box office blockbusters. Guess! People had less choices then

Yeah, what do we know about walking and talking and folding the napkins right? Most southerners use their shirt sleeves as napkins!

We had to put pillow cases over the tomato plants last night so they wouldn't freeze. I hope they'll be okay.

They used to say around here not to plant until Derby Day (the first Saturday in May). They’ve moved it back to Mother’s Day now.
I hope your tomato plants are okay.

@FourWalls The planting guide for our area said the first week in April for tomatoes but we've had them freeze before so are always ready with old pillow cases.
Thanks. It reached 29F last night.

Glad you enjoyed the song. The people who get headaches from country music won’t, however.

Ooh, I’m glad it brings you happy memories.
You know what gets me about this weather? Say the word frost and the plants die. In contrast, flood the back yard with Round-Up and the weeds keep right on growing.

I know. It’s not that “For the Good Times” isn’t a good song, it’s just NOT a Ray Price song (not with that arrangement, anyway).

Utterly amazed that this isn’t the #1 most played song on your iPod.

Let's talk about the weather instead of this song. We had hail yesterday; and today there is rain and S**W on the radar. Will winter ever end? Next week is supposed to get into the high 60s the first part of the week; so I'm looking forward to that. May even try to get out of the house to get the second booster and/or a haircut. Have a great weekend.
