Shearing time!

No not on the sheep farm, but here in the kitchen - everyone wants a hair trim before the holidays. Many years ago my partner bought a hair clipping machine because he realised that after a couple of visits to the barbers, he had already spent more than the cost of the clippers and since he just wanted a basic all-over trim, it didn’t require a lot of skill. So I’ve been giving him a regular shearing for about 15 years. I normally trimmed the girls’ hair as well, but since they both had long hair that just meant tidying up the ends with scissors. But then in the Covid lockdown, they both fancied trying something more adventurous, and it was a great time to experiment because nobody would know if it all went horribly wrong! So Big One opted for a pixie cut while Little One went for an undercut. And rather surprisingly, they both trusted me to have a go with the clippers. The results were surprisingly good and so we’ve carried on for the two years since then, and both girls have received compliments on their hair styles! So yesterday evening we got the clippers out and tidied everyone up. That just left me, but I have long hair and I just trim the ends with scissors. I haven’t tried giving myself a clip yet! Good job. I cut my hair since 1999, after my hairdresser left, I was tried to explain what I wanted and never to get the right cut. Two years ago I went for a shorter cut that I like a lot. Working on your own hair is not always easy, but I have the habit now. I also cut my husband's hair.

@Fleura - I never checked, but there are interesting YouTube videos that show how to cut hair.

I did wonder if I could do a part-time course in hairdressing or something, but it seems only full-time courses for professional hairdressers are available.

We always feel better after a fresh cute. Cool photo by the way. I remember an uncle always raised sheep.

They're lucky you have that talent. I haven't messed with my hair for 3 years now and it's gotten long. I don't dare cut it myself, I did that some years ago and made a mess of it.

@fleura I paid £17 for my last trim. £17, I tell you. My wife would happily oblige but I can’t sit still for the time it would take her. But £17 for a man’s haircut! And he didn’t even use any “product” on it, and it only took 10 minutes. £17!!!

I generally don't care if I look weird. Haha! So, even before the pandemic, I've been cutting my own hair. But, yeah, mostly it's just trimming the ends... And I usually wear my hair in a pony so... somehow it's ok if the ends aren't that straight.

Same here, I last went to a hairdresser in 2001. Maybe one day I'll do something more radical.

My hair is getting longer and longer but, like yours, just needs the ends trimming off. Maybe I could do it myself. I had a friend trim it last time but since then we've moved.

I got my hair trimmed by my daughter during the lockdown. She gave me a newest look.
