What an old couple we are!

We never seem to have much spare time, normally we’re busy in the evenings, then it’s dinner, clearing up and getting the girls into bed, finishing some work and then bed for us as well. But this week my partner has a few days off work and Big One is away on a residential course for the week. Now Little One is in bed after a busy day and we are sitting by the fire (it was a pleasantly mild day but the evenings are still chilly), he with his book and me with my knitting. It made me laugh when I looked up and suddenly realised how like a traditional old couple we are! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

Good. It's important to feel young no matter what.

Uhm... aren't you both ancient, though? We all fall into certain habits and, unless something shakes us out of those habits, we continue them for the rest of our lives. *shrug* At least you know everything is stable and you're all happy, right?

@Fleura Oh, that could still happen. I don't think the rest of the world would help either one of our countries any more than they're actually helping Ukraine.

Yes we are, just don't want to admit it! You're right of course. We are privilidged to have the luxury of doing boring, simple things in our own homes without the fear of being dragged out and shot by invading soldiers.

Truth be told. It is not the number of years but the demeanor that speaks (lol)

@Fleura For the most part, we watch the suspense movie or TV series.

We virtually never watch TV. Very occasionally we all watch a wildlife documentary or some sort of skills thing like baking or sewing. What kind of things do you watch?

So as long as I don't take up knitting I won't ever have to worry about falling into the traditional old couple category?

@Fleura Well that takes all the fun out of it then! You’re not living life until you walk around in slippers with your pipe in hand!

That's certainly an 'old' scene you've conjured up! We don't have such a lovely fire any more.

I spy a butterfly in the lower right hand corner. It looks like a cast iron trivet I once had. Nothing wrong with reading or knitting. Both are great ways to unwind.

@fleura You'll soon be listening to the Archers while you knit in front of the fire - that's one of my vivid memories of my mother in the early 60s just before we moved to Malawi, and when we returned after 8 years she just took up where she left off.

My mother used to listen to the Archers when I was little! That theme tune takes me right back to being jiggled on my mother's knee!
