Abbot for President?

I must admit that governor DeSantis has been a bit on my radar for 2024, and I would actually be a bit surprised if he may not try to run. However, while I am a fan of his Florida politics, I am not sure he has been high on my list of potential runners for the White House.
Yet.
But another governor I have been watching closely is Greg Abbot from Texas. I like his policies and his recent move to address the issue of the porous border which the Biden administration has no interest in solving, by sending busloads of illegals straight to Washington is a bold move.
It sends a message. "You want US to deal with it, yet it's YOUR policy. We will deal with it by sending them right to you since you want them so badly."
It's not what he said. But it is essentially the message, and I like it.
I think he may enter the stage and if he does he might get a few checkmarks from me for sure.
As we near the campaign cycle we should start seeing who is going to put their names out there—and I think on both sides since I am not convinced the democrat party is much interested in what they have now.
2024 is going to be gobs of fun to watch. The midterms notwithstanding, which I am thinking might be a red tsunami the likes of which we have never seen before.
I think we will see potentially 30 republican governors and the republicans own the House and Senate.
Their prospects for 2024 are very strong as well.

Anyone would be better than Biden. Unless there is someone far worse I don't know about.

@porwest AOC is up there with Biden for sure. I have no idea who Elizabeth Warren is.

@lovebuglena She's the nutcase who thought she was an indian, who looks like a witch and sounds like one too, and who has her brains tucked high up into her nether region.
But also, she is a Senator from Massachusetts. She was also a democrat presidential candidate who ran against Biden in the primaries.

Cannot wait for Biden and his crew to leave while we still have a country. I still say DeSantis. Yes, what Abbot did is absolutely amazing, and he seems to be getting a lot done in Texas which helps for the entire country with the immigration crisis ignored but everyone else. Still pulling for DeSantis, but we will see, will be a good one to watch.

I sure hope you turn out to be right. My advice to conservatives is don't assume anything, make sure it happens. My son in law said in 2020 that there was no way Trump wouldn't get reelected and look what happened.

@porwest I've thought of that, too. We should never take for granted that elections will be honest.

@1creekgirl I always had faith in elections. Now I am not so sure for the first time ever in my life.

I know it is a controversial thing to say, but we have to consider that republicans did not falter in the 2020 presidential election, and not even in the congressional or senatorial races. In fact, Trump got 10 million more votes in 2020 than he got in 2016. When other forces are at play one wonders if 2020 was the beginning of a truth that we often joked about but never truly believed that our vote doesn't count.
I still contend the election in 2020 was stolen, and if that one can be stolen who is to say the rest of them won't be either?
The unfortunate part of that? Republicans would never do it. Not that I would advocate for them to. Just saying if elections CAN be stolen, who will be in charge forever and ever hereafter and what does that mean for the country?

@porwest Biden has been dealing with unprecedented circumstances. COVID, Trump's Afghanistan withdrawal commitment, Trump trying to weaken NATO and loving Putin, and increased inflation and gas prices due to global circumstances.
He has low approval ratings. I freely admit that. But I can't imagine what they would be if Trump was president right now. I sleep easier tonight knowing Biden is in the White House instead of Trump.

@NJChicaa Unprecedented circumstances? Covid was a year old by the time Biden took office and we had the vaccine and yet during Biden's time in office there were MORE deaths? I thought he said he had the answers to do what Trump couldn't?
Obviously he did not.
Biden had to deal with Trump's Afghan withdrawal commitment? Biden erased almost every single Trump policy within hours of taking the oath. Why not THAT one?
Trump did not try to weaken NATO. What his intent was to STRENGTHEN it by making it so that participating countries honored to pay their fair share of the bill according to NATO rules which were not being enforced, and therefore the U.S. taxpayers were paying a much higher percentage than any other country.
Trump did not love Putin, and his policies were very tough on Russia throughout his presidency. Trump did say he admired some attributes about Putin, but that does mean he loved him. If ANYONE loved Putin it was Obama who told him before his reelection to sit tight until he got reelected so he could have more 'flexibility' to give Putin what he wanted.
You have to wonder a little bit about Ukraine too when it comes to Biden. Where was Biden's son when he was VP? Ukraine. Where was the scandal Biden's son and Biden himself are involved in? Ukraine. What's a marvelous way to distract from the laptop issue and maybe even destroy evidence in Ukraine that would be very bad for Biden? Blow the country up. Hmm. THINK about it. What if Biden actually gave Putin the go ahead to attack?
Inflation did not start until after Biden took office. Gas prices did not go up due to global circumstances. They went up almost immediately after Biden reversed Trump's energy policies.

I'm sure you are right about your discernment of him and the right people to save America. In time...

It will be interesting, actually, to see who enters the stage for 2024. There are few names that come to mind that are "highlights" for me right now, which I think is unfortunate. DeSantis is a name I think will show up. Cruz may enter again and maybe even Rubio. I'd prefer Rubio over Cruz and think he'd have a better chance considering Cruz has gone a bit too far right for me.
It's going to be fun to start seeing names enter the field.
