Gee, that didn’t hurt. Of course, I said that when I turned 40. It was 41 that got me. 
Anyway, the birthday celebration continues with another song that has an age in the title. I believe some Wrecked Phred was waiting for this one….

NJ Chic was waiting for this one, too. Her favorite band! (She hates Steely Dan almost as much as I love them.)
Hey, we’re here on 4/20 and we get to listen to a reference to “the fine Colombian.” How about that??
How times have changed. When this song came out I was 20, not 19. But, even growing up deeply steeped in country music, I knew who Aretha Franklin was!!!
But over 40 years hasn’t changed one thing: this is a great song!

I have always liked this song and Steely Dan. "Hey Nineteen" was released on my baby brother's ninth birthday. I was twelve then, the middle child was ten, and our half-sister was nine days shy of seven. Of my siblings, maybe the middle child might like the song, but otherwise, it's only me.

This was the last album they made before they “took some time off.” I don’t think they technically “broke up,” simply because they hadn’t toured since 1973.

Glad you enjoyed it! I remember being 19, too. That’s when I made that goofy mistake and joined the Navy.

I remember hearing this on the radio as a kid. I loved the laid-back vibe, but of course it wasn't until I was older that I understood the references to "the Cuervo Gold, the fine Colombian", lol

I had to read online what the reference to “tonight when I chase the dragon” meant from their song “Time Out of Mind” on this album. What a sheltered life I’ve led!

Yup, great song.
When I was 19 my province (Ontario) lowered the legal drinking age to 18. (They later raised it to 19 some years later.)

It was 18 on base when I was in the Navy. It didn’t matter, though: getting drunk once was enough for me.

I joined the Navy when I was 19. I’d like to be that skinny again…maybe have that much energy, too….
