What is the point of this?

After reading about the film/movie ‘Moonlighting’ which @BarBaraPrz mentioned in a comment, I thought it sounded rather interesting and the kind of thing I might enjoy when I’m away on my own (I doubt if the rest of the family would be all that keen). It dates from the 1980s so might not be easy to find in the shops, so I thought I’d have a look on Ebay in case there were any copies for sale there. And I did find a few, but there are also several versions of a series of the same name which makes things rather confusing. But anyway one of the DVDs for sale was this, which lists the Moonlighting series pilot DVD for sale for $3,276.00 Australian dollars (approximately £1,883.00). I simply do not understand the point of this listing. Why would you offer something like this for sale for such a ridiculous price when other people are offering what appears to be the same item for less than $20? I’ve seen similar listings before, often for books or CDs, and there is absolutely no way anyone would ever pay that. So why do people create these listings, can anyone explain? I remember very well this series, I always watched on the French TV when we lived in Monte Carlo. Amazon UK sells the full series (1 to 5) ? 52 hours and 30 minutes of runtime sells for 199 £. I always check Amazon first to have an idea. Of course you can watch from free on YouTube.

Thanks. But what I was really wondering was why people list items for sale for totally unrealistic prices? No-one could ever seriously pay this sort of money.

@Fleura I have noticed and honestly I cannot understand. Should this not be available it would be a "collector item", but it is available through Amazon, so it sounds ridiculous.

@LadyDuck Also the series is completely different to the film. I've never seen either of them, but Wikipedia describes the series as a comedy-drama about private detectives, while the film is about Polish men who travel to England for work.

Perhaps a die hard fan or a collector would be interested. A local comic book cost $20 here in our country because it is vintage.

$20 for a vintage comic? That's cheap.
An "exceedingly rare" copy of a comic book that introduced Superman for the first time has sold for a record-breaking price.

I could understand if it was rare, but it seems to be just one of several available and the others are relatively cheap!

Maybe they misplaced the decimal point? I used to watch that TV series. It starred Cybil Sheppard and Bruce Willis before he went bald. The interplay between them was quite entertaining.

Ahhh, I loved the tv series - it was a big excitement each week for me in the 80s! That is an insane price . . . I suppose sellers like that hope that someone actually bites . Maybe they think some fool will assume it's some rare item and just pay it without researching further.

@Fleura I just don't know. Maybe it could be an error?

@much2say It could be, but I've seen this sort of thing too may times to believe all those listings are just mistakes.

Maybe, but it's hard to believe when it comes up as one of a list of the same thing. I don't know.

I haven't heard of the movie ‘Moonlighting’.That price is prohibitive indeed ! Maybe the seller knew the price didn't make sense, but he still hoped against hope that somebody would fall into the snare one day.

Yep. I have seen the same before on other items. Maybe they really don't want to sell it.

That is a very ridiculous price, Moonlighting was a TV series that was very popular with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard about a detective agency, I did not know there was a movie by the same name,

Seems crazy. I enjoyed that series. We can borrow many of these shows from the library.

People will try to get away with anything if they can, but the price might have also been a typo.

I think the seller just want to catch only one silly moron in his trap which would be more than worth his effort to put up the listing.

Sometimes it has to do with the condition of the item. That is a lot of difference.
